Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

General labor protection requirements are set out in the instructions "General requirements for labor protection for workers engaged in logging and forestry work".

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. It is forbidden to work on the splitting machine in clothes with wide sleeves and unbuttoned jackets.

2.2. On a splitting machine, blocks with a length and diameter not exceeding the dimensions specified by the manufacturer in the instruction manual should be split.

2.3. Before starting work, the machine operators of the balancing saw and the splitting machine must:

  • to inspect the machine, near-machine equipment;
  • check the serviceability of the table, chain, piercing wedge, fences, brakes, grounding and signaling means;
  • check the serviceability of the saw and the reliability of its fastening;
  • check the position of the stops on the drive chain. The stops should not deviate from the working edge of the wedge by more than 5 mm in one direction or another. The front upper edges of the stops should not be worn out by more than 1 mm;
  • check the condition of the wedge. The wedge should be sharp enough, without shells and dents;
  • check the lubrication, if necessary, lubricate the machine;
  • check the availability and serviceability of a hand tool for supplying blocks to the machine;
  • check the strength of the fastening of the railing installed at the border of the junction of the platform for blocks to the splitting machine.

2.4. Check the serviceability of the drive of the conveyor for supplying logs under the saw,

2.5. Before starting the balance saw and splitting machine, inform others and make sure that there are no people in the danger areas.

2.6. Check the serviceability of all mechanisms of the machine at idle.

It is forbidden to work on faulty equipment.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. The employee must perform only the work that is entrusted to him by his immediate supervisor.

3.2. When splitting firewood on a splitting machine, one worker (machinist) should be to the left of the machine at the control panel, and the second, busy throwing firewood (short) should be to the right of the machine behind the wedge fence.

3.3. The machine operator must:

  • feed wood from the stack to the feed conveyor to the saw of the balancing machine. After filling the conveyor, it must be turned on and the logs fed under the saw until it stops;
  • feed the sawn off churak to the cleaver, and if its diameter is small, when splitting is not required, dump it into the container;
  • apply only one block to the chain of the cleaver and only after the chain has gained full speed;
  • monitor the pushing of the block onto the wedge, paying attention to the position of the stop fixed on the chain;
  • when the split block approaches the stabbing wedge, support it from above with a hand tool;
  • knotted blocks should be laid on the traction chain with branches up, and crooked blocks should be applied to the stabbing wedge with curvature upwards;
  • when hovering on a stabbing wedge of a block that has not been split to the end, immediately turn off the machine;
  • when the chain of the cleaver is completely stopped, prick the hung churak with an ax or remove it from the piercing wedge with a wedge.

3.4. If it is necessary to split the halves of a large-diameter churak again, they should be laid on the chain one by one using a tool. During the splitting of the half of the churak, the next half must lie steadily on one of the wings of the machine.

Two workers involved in the splitting must agree in advance which of them will be the first to feed half of the churak to the chain. To avoid injury, this sequence must be followed at all times.

3.5. Churak with a slant not exceeding 30° must be laid with a slant to the wedge, and with a straight cut - to the stop.

Churak with a knot at the end must be laid with this end against the stop.

3.6. The bifurcated blocks are laid on the traction chain with the bifurcated part forward in such a way that both halves are in a horizontal position.

If the forked parts of the churak are close or close to each other, the churak must be directed to the split so that the stabbing wedge passes between them.

If the forked parts of the churak are located widely, you must first split one part of the bifurcation, then turn the churak and let it split with the forked part back.

3.7. When feeding blocks to the splitting machine, it is necessary to ensure that the blocks roll onto the conveyor in only one row and at intervals that provide sufficient time for splitting.

3.8. Workers must ensure that all logs of the split block are removed from the receiving table before the next block approaches the stabbing wedge.

3.9. Passages on both sides of the machine must always be free to a width of at least 1 m. To do this, all waste from splitting should be placed in a special container and, as it is filled, taken out to a specially designated place. Cassettes for laying firewood must be placed no closer than 1 m from the machine.

3.10. While working on the wood cutting unit, it is prohibited:

  • split blocks shorter than 0,5 m;
  • guide moving blocks or chopping blocks manually, as well as remove chips from splitting while the chain is moving;
  • submit for splitting blocks with icy ends, beveled by more than 30 °, with a break between the ends;
  • feed two or more blocks to the machine chain;
  • submit logs with a diameter of more than 35 cm for sawing, and for splitting - with a diameter of more than 60 cm;
  • remove the guards of the moving parts of the machines during operation;
  • allow unauthorized persons to work on the machines;
  • leave turned on machines without supervision;
  • work on machines with faulty grounding;
  • to clean the machine from waste while the saw is running or the chain of the cleaver is moving;
  • work with a saw that is missing at least one tooth;
  • brake the disc with a piece of wood or other object;
  • be in the plane of rotation of the saw during operation;
  • arbitrarily repair electrical equipment;
  • move from one job to another without the permission of the supervisor.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. If the motor overheats, stop it and let it cool down. Do not cool the engine with water or snow.

4.2. If a fire is detected in the wiring, it is necessary to immediately stop the engine and turn off the breaker.

4.3. At the stop signal, the machine operator must immediately stop the machine or the wood splitter, regardless of who gave this signal.

4.4. If it is necessary to eliminate the malfunction that has arisen during operation and maintenance, turn off the engine of the machine and the mechanical splitter.

4.5. The victim or eyewitness must notify the foreman or the appropriate work manager of each accident.

4.6. Each worker must be able to provide first aid. Assistance must be provided immediately at the scene of the incident. The first step is to eliminate the source of injury (turn off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the whip, etc.).

The provision of assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens the health or life of a person: in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, you should first bandage the wound, and then apply a splint; for burns, apply a dry bandage; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues.

If spinal injuries are suspected, the victim can only be transported in the supine position on a rigid base.

After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. Upon completion of work, you should:

  • stop the balancing and splitting machines, remove all remaining blocks and logs;
  • clean the machines and the workplace from wood waste and debris.

5.2. Notify the foreman or the relevant work supervisor of any shortcomings in the field of labor protection.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Hyundai Courier Robot 16.12.2022

Hyundai Motor Group has launched a pilot project with an autonomous courier robot to speed up last mile deliveries. The electronic courier knows how to build routes to the destination itself, bypasses obstacles on the way, rides an elevator and even recognizes an opening door. He opens the compartment with the ordered goods on his own when the recipient approaches him. Two jobs have already begun, one operating at the Rolling Hills Hotel from 8 to 10 p.m., and the other serving residents on the outskirts of Seoul.

The robot is built on the Plug&Drive (PnD) modular platform that Hyundai introduced at the CES consumer electronics show earlier in the year. It was equipped with cameras and leaders, four small wheels with shock absorbers, which allow it to overcome slight irregularities without damage to the load, an order compartment, as well as illumination signaling a low charge and diode "eyes". Crowns the capsule of the screen, which displays information for the customer.

At the hotel, the robot delivers food and drinks: guests order them through the KakaoTalk messenger. It drives through corridors on its own, recognizing people and objects using deep learning algorithms, and also uses an elevator. Moreover, if the elevator is full, the drone will wait for the next one. Another feature of Hyundai's work is the ability to distinguish adults from children and report orders according to age, using different text and voice.

A robot operating in a residential area takes an order through the app of the Korean food delivery service Baemin. Having received an order, he himself looks for the right product in a local store and also brings it to the door of the apartment, opening the front door and using the elevator using a wireless connection.

As a result of the pilot program, Hyundai will improve operations and then gradually increase the number of e-couriers and their hours of operation. Over time, it is planned to connect the carrier to work with commercial customers.
