Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

General labor protection requirements are set out in the instructions "General requirements for labor protection for workers engaged in logging and forestry work".

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. Before starting work, the round timber stacker must:

  • inspect the workplace, check the serviceability of ejectors, sidewalks, stairs, auxiliary tools;
  • check the reliability of the operation of the remote control of the timber conveyor and alarm;
  • make sure that there are no foreign objects, debris, snow, ice on the upper and lower branches of the timber conveyor, drive and tension stations, ejectors, preventing safe operation;
  • check the presence and serviceability of the fence, drive and tension stations of the timber conveyor.

2.2. All malfunctions that cannot be eliminated on their own should be reported to the master.

It is not allowed to work on faulty equipment, faulty tools and on an unprepared and icy workplace not strewn with anti-slip materials.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. The employee must perform only the work that is entrusted to him by his immediate supervisor.

3.2. Before starting the timber conveyor, you must make sure that there are no people along its entire length and warn others about the start by giving a signal.

3.3. The alignment of the ends of the assortments in the forest stores should be carried out only when the timber conveyor is stopped. In this case, the stop of the timber conveyor by the stacker must be duplicated by the operator. The start of the timber conveyor must be carried out by the operator at the signal of the stacker who stopped the timber conveyor.

3.4. When maintaining the assortment, in order to exclude its premature dumping, it is not allowed to correct or level the assortment moving along the timber conveyor.

3.5. During the operation of the timber conveyor it is not allowed:

  • remove jammed pieces of wood, debris or compressed bark;
  • stand on the working chain of the timber conveyor, moving logs or step over them;
  • to cross under the overpass of the timber transporter in unspecified places;
  • unauthorized persons to be on the pedestrian flooring of the timber transporter and on the pedestrian bridges;
  • anyone to be in the danger zone of operation of the ejectors, drive and tension stations and in the forest storage areas;
  • perform any adjustment or repair work.

3.6. The operator is not allowed:

  • allow unauthorized persons into the cabin;
  • transfer control of the sorting timber transporter to other persons;
  • move away from the control panel and leave the cab with the mechanisms turned on.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. At the stop signal, the operator or stacker must immediately stop the timber transporter, regardless of who gave this signal.

4.2. If it is necessary to eliminate a malfunction, carry out maintenance, clean debris and snow from the throwers, drive and tension stations, the upper and lower branches of the sorting timber conveyor, pedestrian flooring, bridges, stairs, forest storage, as well as in the event of people appearing in the danger zone, the operator or stacker must stop the sorting timber conveyor and turn off the main switch.

4.3. In case of failure of the automated control system for the dumpers, the stacker should reset the assortments in manual mode from the push-button control station.

4.4. The victim or eyewitness must notify the foreman or the appropriate work manager of each accident.

4.5. Each worker must be able to provide first aid. Assistance must be provided immediately at the scene of the incident. The first step is to eliminate the source of injury (turn off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the whip, etc.).

The provision of assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens the health or life of a person: in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, you should first bandage the wound, and then apply a splint; for burns, apply a dry bandage; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues.

If spinal injuries are suspected, the victim can only be transported in the supine position on a rigid base.

After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. The operator must stop the timber conveyor, turn off the main switch, check the serviceability of the timber conveyor components, electrical equipment and the discharge control device.

5.2. Stackers must clean the workplaces, clean the timber conveyor and sidewalks from debris and other foreign objects, collect tools and take them to the place designated for this.

5.3. During the maintenance and cleaning of the timber conveyor, a sign must hang on the control panel with the inscription "Do not operate! Maintenance in progress!".

5.4. Any deficiencies in the field of labor protection must be reported to the foreman or the relevant work manager.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Radar in the hands of a rescuer 21.05.2000

A German firm has released a portable radar to search for living people covered by an avalanche or buried under the rubble of buildings after an earthquake.

The operation of the device is based on the frequency shift of ultrashort radio waves when they are reflected from moving objects (Doppler effect). If a collapsed person is breathing, if his heart is beating, these small movements are enough for the reflected wave to acquire a slightly different frequency (and length) than that emitted by the radar.

It takes half a minute to find the victim. A dog trained to search for people under avalanches smells a person through a two-meter thickness of snow, and a radar through an eight-meter one.

The device can also be used to search for people illegally crossing the border in the trunk of a car or in a cargo container.
