Safety requirements

1. Persons who have reached the age of 18, are allowed to work at heights, and have been instructed in safe methods and methods of work are allowed to work on clearing snow from roofs.

2. The admission of workers to the roof is allowed after the work supervisor has inspected the rafters, lathing (formwork), parapet and determines their serviceability, and, if necessary, places and methods for securely fastening safety ropes (kapron or hemp).

3. When working on the roof, workers must be provided with tried and tested safety belts, safety ropes and non-slip shoes.

4. Rope or cable should be attached to the belt only from behind. The length of the rope or cable should be no more than the length from the place of its attachment (ridge) to the roof eaves. Work on hard roofs without non-slip (felted or felted) footwear is prohibited.

5. Those working on roofs with a slope of more than 20 degrees or on wet roofs (regardless of the slope) must be equipped with portable ladders (ladders) at least 30 cm wide with sewn-on straps. Ladders during work should be securely fastened to the roof ridge with hooks.

6. It is forbidden to fasten safety ropes and steel cables to chimney caps; they should be fixed to strong structural elements of buildings.

7. It is allowed to stack piece materials, tools and containers on the roof only if measures are taken to prevent them from falling down the slope or being blown away by the wind.

8. When throwing snow off roofs, the following precautions should be taken:

a) the sidewalk, and, if necessary, the carriageway, to the width of a possible snowfall, are fenced on three sides with inventory gratings or shields and a rope with red flags suspended on special racks; the width of the fenced part with a building height of up to 20 m must be at least 6 m, with a height of 40 m - at least 10 m. If it is necessary to throw snow from the roofs of buildings more than 40 m high, the width of the fenced part must be proportionally increased;

b) before the fence on the sidewalk, an attendant in an orange vest is posted, he must have a whistle to warn pedestrians and signal to those working on the roof;

c) all doorways leading towards the roof slope being cleared of snow are locked or guards are placed inside the stairwells, arches, gates to warn people of the danger. If it is impossible to close the door (exit towards the roof slope being cleaned), a canopy should be made.

9. It is forbidden to dump snow on electric, telephone and other wires, antenna inputs, trolley wires, as well as on trees, bushes, kiosks located below, cars, etc.

10. Do not throw tools or other objects from the roof.

11. At the end of work, as well as during a break in work, tools and other objects must be removed from the roofs.

12. It is forbidden to clean the roofs during thick fog, wind exceeding 6 points, heavy snowfall.

13. Snow removal from roofs is allowed only during the daytime. If it is necessary to carry out these works in the evening or at night, the place of work and approaches to it should be well lit.

14. Removal of ice icicles from the edges of roofs and from drainpipes should be carried out only with a special device (hook). Hanging from rooftops while performing this work is prohibited.

15. When cleaning roofs, it is forbidden to touch electrical wires, television antennas, illuminated advertisements and other installations that can cause electric shock.

16. Steel roofing on wooden rafters should be cleaned of snow regularly, avoiding the formation of a layer of snow of more than 30 cm.

17. Snow removal from roofs of all structures should be carried out only with wooden shovels, starting from the ridge to the eaves evenly, avoiding overloading individual sections of the roof from snow. It is forbidden to start cleaning the roof from snow from the edges. It is not allowed to use a metal tool for chipping off ice that has formed on certain sections of the roof (in the wall gutter, at the trays in front of the downpipes, in the trays themselves, etc.).

18. Snow should not be completely removed from flat combined roofs (rolled and non-rolled), as a layer of snow of 5-10 cm may remain on the surfaces of such roofs.

19. Cleaning of large icings from the eaves of roofs that do not have special heating devices should be carried out with the help of steam from a hose and other devices, observing precautions against burns and falling from the roof.

20. It is forbidden to clean the roofing carpet from ice on a rollless roof.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Self-healing synthetic material 28.03.2001

Scientists at the University of Illinois (USA) announced the invention of a new synthetic material capable of self-healing.

In the course of research in the field of composites, scientists came up with the idea of filling them with microscopic capsules containing a special filling substance and a catalyst. When the smallest cracks appear in the material, the capsules burst and release a substance that fills the resulting space. As soon as the filling substance reacts with the catalyst, polymerization occurs and the damaged area is repaired.

In the tests carried out, the mechanical characteristics of the material were restored by 75%. Currently, scientists are experimenting with various composites, which include from 15 to 30 capsules per square centimeter. Experiments show that products made from this material are many times more durable than those made from a conventional composite.

The new material is not yet ready for industrial use. However, experts are already predicting its use in various fields - from the production of tennis rackets and artificial joints to spacecraft.
