Somatic (from the internal organs) pathology in drug addiction has its own characteristics. Damage to the heart, blood vessels, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, blood system - diseases characteristic of a drug addict.

All patients in a short time develop severe medical consequences of chronic poisoning of the body with narcotic substances: damage to internal organs, nervous system, brain. Therefore, there are a variety of mental disorders and the growing degradation of the individual. Working capacity is lost, complete disability sets in. This category of patients has a high mortality rate. Changes in the nervous system occur early - in the first months of drug use. At this stage, headache, sleep disturbance, lability of the pulse and blood pressure are observed.

When organic brain damage begins (dementia, epileptic disorders, personality changes), adolescents lose control over the dose. And sometimes, stunned and intoxicated, they bring themselves to fatal poisoning.

In the absence of drugs, withdrawal syndrome develops. It lasts 8-10 days and is characterized by a variety of symptoms - vomiting, diarrhea, aching pains, "brittle" twisting nature of the joints and muscles, a sense of fear, anxiety.

The cause of death of drug addicts in 80% of cases is an overdose of drugs: a coma (unconscious) state of a weakened body leads to anaphylactic shock and instant death.

Death is the result not only of complications of serious diseases due to constant intoxication (such as acute heart or liver failure), but also of drug overdoses, accidents while intoxicated, suicides in a fit of anguish, during "withdrawal". Patients die from infection (including AIDS) entering the bloodstream due to the use of dirty syringes, from thrombosis (blockage) of blood vessels.

Drug addicts destroy themselves not only physically, but also spiritually. They are characterized by changes in the psyche - such as emptiness, callousness, coldness, loss of the ability to empathize and emotional contact, deep egoism. In the course of the disease, the energy and volitional tone drop sharply, all desires and needs fade away, except for the attraction to drugs. And hence - the immorality of patients, their tendency to antisocial behavior, readiness for crimes.

Adolescents lose interest in learning, they learn new knowledge with difficulty, and the acquired knowledge is lost. Indifference to relatives, to the efforts of parents develops, an inability to critically evaluate one's behavior appears.

Drug addiction poses a significant social danger from the point of view of criminogenic - as a factor that generates crime. The criminal behavior of drug addicts is due to the personality changes described above.

In addition, drug addicts commit socially dangerous acts in connection with psychosis, for example, for delusional motives or under the influence of frightening hallucinations.

Constant dependence on the drug, on the one hand, and high prices for drugs, the impossibility of obtaining them legally, on the other, push drug addicts to commit more and more serious crimes (forgery of prescriptions, prostitution, theft, robbery and even murder). All of the above requires the adoption of decisive measures, primarily preventive ones.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Volcanoes and plague 23.04.2001

Climatologist Richard Stothers from the Goddard Institute for Space Research (USA), having studied historical documents, ice samples drilled from great depths of the Greenland glaciers, and rings on cuts of old trees, claims to have found a connection between large volcanic eruptions and plague epidemics.

Over the past 2000 years, there have been seven powerful eruptions, each of which has thrown at least one hundred million tons of dust and gases into the atmosphere. And in five cases out of seven, an epidemic of bubonic plague swept through the Old World shortly after the eruption. Volcanic dust brought into the upper atmosphere weakens the solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface.

As a result, cold air currents are shifting to the south, in Europe and the Middle East the climate becomes colder and more humid, which contributes to the spread of plague bacilli.

Plague-carrying rats try to stay closer to human dwellings and food supplies because of the cold snap. Then the epidemic begins.
