For almost ten years, the leading group of Russian rocket modellers in the so-called sports classes has been headed by an athlete from Magadan I. Shmatov. His son Anton is following in his father's footsteps. For the last three years he was the winner of the world championship among youths, and in 1997 he became the champion of Russia among adults in sports classes S6A and S4B. Today our story is about his brake band rocket.

The design of models of Magadan athletes is a kind of "long-liver" in this class. This sports equipment has been in service for almost ten years and brings awards to its creators. I think our readers are interested in getting to know him.

The body of the model is molded from two layers of fiberglass with a thickness of 0,25 mm, followed by fixing in a drying cabinet. After processing the hull, three stabilizers, cut from 0,6 mm thick balsa veneer and reinforced with fiberglass, are butt-glued on epoxy resin to the tail section (engine compartment). The head fairing is fiberglass, a sleeve 25 mm long is glued on the bottom to connect it to the body. The bottom part is closed by a frame in which the brake band suspension thread is fixed. Its other end is glued to the stabilizer in the tail part of the body, and the whole of it is located outside along the model.

Brake tape measuring 1300x110 mm is made of metallized lavsan with a thickness of 24 microns. Fits "accordion" with variable pitch; 25 mm at the beginning and 50 mm at the end.

The mass of the model without the MRD and the brake band is 4,5 g. The Czech engine "Delta" - A-1-5 designed by I. Taborsky is used at the competitions.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Cadillac CTS with drone function 13.09.2014

In two years, the automotive corporation General Motors (GM) promises to release vehicles with semi-automatic control and technology for wireless interaction with other machines (Vehicle-to-vehicle, V2V). Through new solutions, the American manufacturer hopes to reduce the number of accidents involving its cars.

In 2016, the updated Cadillac CTS sedan will receive wireless communications that provide interaction with other cars on the road within a radius of 300 meters, as well as the Super Cruise option, which will be able to control the speed and direction of the car in traffic jams and on the highway.

The technology option, thanks to which drivers will not need to participate in the steering in certain situations, is called Super Cruise. She will be able to slow down and accelerate the car, as well as adjust the direction of its movement at speeds up to 113 km / h, following the markings and the distance to the vehicle in front. Equipped with Super Cruise, a car will be able to drive itself both on the highway and in traffic, explained GM CEO Mary Barra during her speech at the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress in Detroit.

The semi-autonomous driving system will be optionally available to all models of the Cadillac brand starting in 2016. The automaker did not name the cost of the additional feature. A safety package that includes adaptive cruise control and automatic braking and forward collision warning systems is currently being offered to Cadillac customers for about $2400.

One of the first vehicles to use Super Cruise is the facelifted Cadillac CTS sedan. It will also receive a V2V Wi-Fi communication system, with the help of which nearby cars (in the case of GM technology, its range will be 300 meters) will be able to transmit useful information to each other. Such a development will increase the speed of traffic, warn drivers about traffic jams and adverse road conditions, as well as build the best route in real time, taking into account numerous road factors.
