MODELING
Cord racing model aircraft. Tips for a modeler Directory / Radio control equipment The cord racing model of the aircraft, which we want to bring to your attention, fully complies with the requirements of the FAI. Its most important characteristics are: minimum total area - 12 dm2, height with cabin - 100 mm, midsection area - 39 cm2, fuselage width - 50 mm, engine displacement - 2,5 cm3, fuel tank capacity - 7 ml. The fuselage of the model is made of foam, assembled on a base of basswood. For it, you will need three foam bars of the PS or PVC brands (density - 0,1 g / cm3) with dimensions of 40x50x400 mm, 10x50x160 mm and 35x50x400 mm and one lime plate 15 mm thick. The blanks are preliminarily fastened with PVA glue through spacers made of whatman paper, and the fuselage is processed along the outer contour. Next, the blanks are separated and each is hollowed out from the inside so that the thickness of the shell is at least two and no more than four millimeters. On the base, mark the location of the engine and mark the centers of the holes for the motor mount bolts. Its reliable fixation will be ensured by duralumin bushings with a wall thickness of 2-3 mm, the inner diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the bolt. Now you should mark the grooves on the fuselage for the wing and horizontal tail. The axis of the engine must clearly coincide with the plane of the chords of the latter. It is also important to observe the parallel plane of the chords of the wing and the horizontal tail. The wing profile is biconvex, symmetrical, with a maximum thickness located on 40% of its chord. Such a wing can also be made from a foam plate with a thickness of at least 8 mm. In its manufacture, it is best to use the method of cutting foam with hot nichrome wire. To do this, you will have to cut out two templates from a duralumin sheet - for the root and end sections of the wing. Next, the templates are glued to the ends of the foam plate - console blanks, and a nichrome wire stretched over a simple wooden frame (such as a bow saw heated by electric current cuts off excess foam. At the same time, carefully make sure that the wire touches both templates all the time.
After such a "heat treatment", the wing is edged with pine slats, and a groove is cut in the region of maximum thickness, and a pine spar is glued into it. Both the edging and the spar are best glued with epoxy. For the passage of cord threads in the wing to a depth of 4 mm, grooves 1 mm wide are cut. After laying the cord, the grooves are sealed with a foam strip. Make sure that the glue does not get into the groove. A groove is cut in the center section, in which a three-arm model control rocker is fixed. To install it, a 4 mm thick plywood board is glued into the groove. After attaching the control and thrust cord to the rocker, the groove is sealed with a foam plate, the entire wing is finally sanded and covered with a thin layer of epoxy. The horizontal tail of the same profile as the wing. Cut out of 3mm foam. After processing, the maximum thickness of the plumage in the root section is 3 mm and in the end - 2 mm. It is reinforced in the same way as the wing, with a pine edging. The same edging is also glued to the hinges of the elevator. According to the maximum thickness of the plumage, a kind of spar is glued - a pine triangular plate. After manufacturing the stabilizer and fixing it on the model, it is covered with a thin layer of epoxy resin. The junction is sealed with putty - epoxy glue, kneaded on fine wood or cork sawdust. Loops for suspension of the elevator - made of steel wire Ø 0,4 mm. For their installation, holes Ø 1 mm are drilled in the horizontal tail and rudder, the loops are fixed with epoxy. The chassis of the model consists of a duralumin fairing and steel wire Ø 3 mm, bent in the form of the letter G. The seat under the chassis on the fuselage is reinforced with duralumin bushings. The wheel, consisting of a duralumin hub and a rubber "tire", is fixed on the axle shaft with a steel washer soldered to it. Cabin canopy - composite, made of foam plastic and plexiglass. It is possible, in principle, to stamp it entirely from organic glass, but in this case a more complex stamp will be needed. The area of the air intake must be at least 25 mm2. The inner surface of the engine fairing must be protected with a thin layer of epoxy glue, otherwise the weight of the model will increase due to the impregnation of the foam with fuel. The color of the model is any - you can use nitro or synthetic enamels. The model should be covered with paint in several layers with intermediate sanding and grinding of its surface. In conclusion, apply a protective insoluble varnish to the model - for example, such as parquet is covered with. Even novice modellers can make a model.
