Tin boars. Tips for a modeler

It is difficult to name at least one model that would not have certain steering surfaces. And in any case, even if these rudders are rearranged only during debugging, they are equipped with horns - brackets for connecting adjusting or steering rods.

What designs of wild boars you will not meet! Metal, plastic and plywood, simple and threaded reconfigurable, prefabricated multi-element and simply bent from cutting sheet material.

Tin boars

In our circle, the guys decided to abandon such a motley variety in favor of simplicity and reliability. The simpler, the more reliable! And now almost all models are supplied with hogs soldered from thick tin from cans. The pattern of the workpiece is cut according to the template in a couple of minutes, a minute for bending, the same for soldering.

It remains to drill two holes for the mounting screws and three holes for the rod.

Even good boars come out from under the inexperienced hands of the boys, for three years of operation of the models there has not been a single breakdown due to the "fault" of these parts.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Copper foam battery 05.11.2013

A team of researchers at Colorado State University is close to creating a battery prototype that is more environmentally friendly and cheaper than conventional batteries. In addition, the new battery will charge faster and last longer.

According to scientists, modern batteries have a number of problems: high cost, limited life, and toxic or corrosive materials used in production. But according to Colorado State University chemist Amy Prieto, there are two main issues that need to be addressed immediately: low energy density and low power density.

The low energy density means that conventional smartphone batteries cannot hold enough energy to last longer than 1-2 days. And the low power density means the battery takes hours to charge rather than minutes.

A group of scientists led by Prieto is trying to solve these problems by looking for new battery components. Eventually, the researchers used copper foam as a current collector on the anode side of the battery. According to the scientists, the foam is a suitable structure. It is voluminous, increases the surface area of the electrodes and draws them closer together, which in turn improves the battery's power density. In addition, complex three-dimensional structures of the foam work as an electrode more efficiently.

On top of the copper foam, a copper antimonide anode is made by electroplating. In the future, the anode serves as an electrode for an electrochemical polymerization reaction that accumulates a solid electrolyte. Finally, the space inside the foam is filled with a slurry which is dried to form the cathode. The aluminum mesh structure collects current on the cathode side.

It's important to note that the Colorado State University team uses cheaper electroplating equipment than conventional batteries. Prieto says that the cost of manufacturing copper foam batteries will be about half that of conventional lithium-ion batteries. The group also expects copper foam batteries to be a third smaller than lithium-ion batteries for the same capacity. Charging will take place 5 to 10 times faster, and the operating time will increase by about 10 times compared to conventional batteries.

The new battery will also be environmentally friendly and safe. Solid electrolyte reduces the risk of fire. In addition, the team used non-toxic substances to produce batteries.

After successfully creating a 2D battery on a copper plate, the researchers set about integrating all the components into a XNUMXD battery prototype. Electric bikes and portable electronics will be used for the first test.
