SIEMENS SX45. Mobile phone overview Review The rather large dimensions of the Siemens SX45 are explained by the fact that Siemens engineers, taking as a basis the popular PDA from Casio, namely the Cassiopeia E125, added a GSM900/1800 component to it. As a result, the overall weight of the device has increased, and the operating time has decreased. Weighing 303 grams, the smartphone has dimensions of 134,3 x 87 x 26,5 mm, which does not allow you to put it in a shirt pocket, and in order to carry it on your belt, you will have to purchase a special holster. The standard black case supplied is used to transport the device, but it cannot be used as an everyday device, since you can only talk on the phone using a headset, the connector for which is located at the bottom end of the device, and the case has no cutouts. So, why can’t you use the built-in speaker and microphone when talking? And because of the layout of the original device: the speaker was located at the bottom and remained there. In this case, the ideology of the PDA, rather than the phone, took over - as a result, you have to use a headset. But there is a positive aspect to this constructive solution: during a conversation you don’t need to lean your head against the big screen. Looking at the smartphone, we see the screen occupying most of the device; above it is an indicator used for charging, incoming calls and similar operations; at the bottom is a four-way navigation key shifted to the left, to the right - a speaker hole and, finally, a group of three shortcut keys. The two lower ones are standard: one provides access to the diary, the other to the address book. The third opens the smartphone menu, the so-called Siemens quick menu. On the right is the connector for connecting the charger. Above is a well-disguised connector for connecting MMS cards, next to it is a stylus socket, which in this model is quite unusual, having a sliding design. There are much more controls on the left side surface. At the top you can see the GSM switch, which allows you to activate or disable the GSM component (sometimes useful). Below is the device power key, below it is the navigation wheel, and even lower is the voice recorder key; then there is an infrared port window, and at the very bottom there is a compartment with a spare battery that provides emergency power (CR2032). There is nothing notable on the back panel, with the exception of the detachable battery, under which the SIM card slot is located. The holder is hidden in the case, so all you have to do is insert the card and press until it clicks. The SIM card is removed with exactly the same press. At the bottom end there is a connector for connecting a headset, next to it there is an interface connector covered with a plug, intended for connection to a PC, which is carried out using the cable supplied in the kit. There is no crib - they promise that it will be available in March as an additional accessory. By the way, the kit includes a very good headset - stereo headphones with a button that can be used to pick up the handset when there is an incoming call. And finally, at the top there is a slot for CF-cards. Battery As already mentioned, the battery is detachable and theoretically it can be quickly replaced with another (theoretically, because batteries with a higher capacity do not yet exist). Standard batteries are 1550mAh lithium-ion batteries. According to the manufacturer, they are capable of providing up to 150 hours of standby time and up to two hours of talk time, the same amount of time the smartphone will work in PDA mode. Now comes the fun part: the SX45 takes about 7 hours to fully charge. Thus, in order for the device to be fully charged, it will have to be left overnight. In actual use, with 20-25 minutes of calls per day and use as an organizer for an hour, the battery charge lasted for a day. In any case, the smartphone did not last up to two days - I had to recharge it at night. Software All programs running under Windows CE 3.0 and compiled for the MIPS processor are supported. The changes affected primarily the standard programs. In particular, you can now immediately call or send an SMS from the address book - just call up the pop-up menu with the corresponding items. The SMS Messaging section has appeared in Inbox, where short messages get; It is possible to configure the sending conditions and other parameters. Through the Siemens quick access menu you can also call up SMS messaging, e-mail sending and, more interestingly, Pocket Dialer. The program is implemented very well, supports skins. And finally, it remains to be said that when running any program, battery charge and signal level indicators will be displayed at the top. On the Siemens website you will find several programs that are not included in the package, in particular, a utility for synchronizing SIM card contacts with the address book. The SX45's very meager software package includes only the standard PDA programs Microsoft Active Sync 3.1 and Microsoft Outlook. On the second disk you can find:
Brief Summary Siemens developers tried to combine a cell phone with a PDA, using a ready-made device as a basis. Nothing good came of this: the heavy weight and low adaptability of the smartphone to real operating conditions are not in its favor. The initially supposed support for GPRS packet data transfer never appeared in the device. Author: Eldar Murtazin See other articles Section Mobile Legends.
