Siemens S25

Siemens S25 has become a very common phone, because to this day it remains one of the best: lightness, compactness and reliability are combined in it with the widest range of functions and excellent performance, not to mention the traditional German quality.

Specifications:

  • GSM900/GSM1800
  • GSM Phase II+
  • Color graphic display
  • Built-in modem IR port
  • Vibrating alert
  • Clock, alarm clock, calculator, organizer, games
  • Dictaphone 20 sec.
  • WAP v1.0
  • Dimensions: 117x47x23.5 mm
  • Weight: 125 gram

The phone is designed for 5 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time (twice as much with a high-capacity battery). In reality, the device works much less - about three days. Fortunately, it comes with a Li-Ion battery that can be recharged at any time.

The charger is a standard power supply with a plug. Its weight seemed surprisingly small to me.

Design and ergonomics

The Siemens S25 phone is compact and lightweight. Its weight is 125 grams, which is less than that of the younger brother C25 (due to the Li-Ion battery). The device perfectly fits in the hand, but it can easily slip out. This phone is not afraid of falls, because it is very durable and reliable. I was told about how the S25 was dropped in the snow and driven over it with a car without any consequences (for the phone).

The color six-line graphic display is the second main advantage of this model. I think it's needless to say how important a measure of convenience is the size of the display in a mobile phone. But the color of the display is a completely unnecessary thing, and it is difficult to call it color in the full sense: the display can show only three colors: red, green and blue.

The traditional LED is missing. Siemens engineers, not without reason, considered it an unnecessary detail, but without a blinking green eye, the phone looks somehow lifeless.

The buttons are small, with large numbers and letters, located at a sufficient distance from each other.

In addition to two standard buttons (red and green), there are buttons for entering the notebook and menu, and the second is also used to enter the submenu when working with some functions of the device, as indicated by the corresponding icon at the top of the screen. This button was removed in the 35 series devices, and in vain.

A long press on * turns on / off the ringer, and a long press on # is responsible for locking / unlocking the keypad.

Below the screen are two rocker buttons (i.e. each can work as one or two buttons), with the help of which you navigate through the menu, while a hint appears on the screen each time, naming the function currently performed by each of these buttons. You can assign quick functions to each of the keys, such as calling a calculator or sending SMS. Moreover, if there are new messages or missed calls, the corresponding icon is displayed above each of the keys and it becomes possible to view the message or the list of missed calls.

The phone has three side buttons: two to adjust the volume during a call and menu navigation, and one more (on the opposite side) to control the voice recorder.

Now let's look inside. The battery is connected to the back cover, which is much more convenient than, for example, in the C25, where the battery has to be literally pulled out to get to the SIM card. The fastening of the card itself is done very well (in contrast to the "substrate" of the 35th models): the card is inserted into a folding slot. The disadvantage of the design is some unreliability, but in this case it is not so important, unless you are a fan of pulling out and inserting a SIM card seven times a day.

Menu

The Russified version contains a lot of errors and ambiguities: it's not easy to guess that the "Silent" menu item is responsible for the vibrating alert, and the "Press confirmation" item is for the sound accompaniment of keystrokes. Fortunately, the errors are not very serious.

The phone also has a small help that describes the very basics of the work and, in my opinion, is of little value due to its brevity.

I really liked the light blue backlight, which, moreover, does not go out instantly, but smoothly, in about ten seconds, which pleases the eye, although it does not have a very beneficial effect on the battery charge.

Thanks to the large screen, navigation through the menu becomes very convenient. In addition to the selected menu item, neighboring ones are also visible, and on the right there is a scroll bar. Each of the root menu items is provided with an animated picture.

Short messages

Working with SMS is a pleasure! Received and sent messages are stored in different folders. The large screen makes it easy to both read and type SMS.

While entering a message, the number of characters remaining is displayed, and when you press a key, a list of characters that can be typed with this key appears.

Delivery confirmation is unusual: instead of a standard message, information is displayed in a special format, indicating the date / time and the result of the operation - whether the message was delivered or not. At the same time, it remains not entirely clear whether the message was delivered or just buffered.

signals

The phone contains 42 melodies and the ability to add one of your own.

The melodies are divided into 6 themes: Standard (various trills), Classical, Traditional, Discrete (various beeps) and Pops, and I really liked the melodies from the "Standard" and "Discrete" themes, which cannot be said about the rest, a few, in my opinion , monotonous.

The device contains three ready-made profiles for adjusting the signals in accordance with the situation: normal (user settings), quiet conditions (vibrating alert is turned on and the phone only beeps softly when calling) and noisy conditions (loud audible confirmation of keystrokes and a loud signal when calling).

Conversation

Dialing is accompanied by a nice animation of a signal going through the wire from phone to phone, and, what is really useful, a three-tone signal in the speaker. During a conversation, the display shows the number of the interlocutor (or the name from the notebook), as well as the time of the conversation. Unfortunately, there is no simple clock and date, although there would still be enough space for them.

The sensitivity of the S25 is simply excellent. The device keeps the network where Motorola CD930 and Alcatel OT Club DB are rented out, known for their good sensitivity.

Audibility and speech quality were also on top, although one could complain about the low power of the speaker, which is sufficient only at maximum volume.

At the end of the conversation, its duration is displayed. The phone has a system for accounting for the cost of calls, but it is absolutely useless, since it is not yet supported by any of the Russian operators.

Disadvantages

Despite the fact that the phone is designed and manufactured with German meticulousness, it still has some minor flaws, the main of which is a battery with a capacity that is clearly insufficient for a phone with such a large screen and bright backlight.

The second serious shortcoming is the presence of WAP version 1.0 only, due to which this menu item turns into a mere decoration in most cellular networks.

Many people complain about the insufficient volume of the call and the speaker, and it seemed acceptable to me only when set to the maximum - a volume reserve would really not hurt.

The menu contains a few minor bugs. In particular, scrolling with the side keys sometimes works in a strange way, the answers "yes" and "no" in different cases are assigned to different keys.

We have to say with sadness that this model is somewhat outdated and does not support some newfangled "gadgets" like voice dialing or sending pictures and melodies via SMS. The design of the device, according to many, has already gone out of fashion.

To summarize

Siemens S25 can definitely be called an excellent device and can be recommended to everyone who does not pursue novelty, but appreciates quality and functionality. The phone has excellent characteristics and deserves the highest rating in all respects.

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
