SAGEM MC922

Along with the phone, the box contains a fairly modest set of related equipment: a charger and instructions (in German). The battery is immediately attached to the device and has a small initial starting charge.

Design

Distinguished by traditionally small physical dimensions - 116,5x45,5x18,5 mm and weighing 117 g, the phone visually gives the impression of being miniaturized, although, in my opinion, the design is already a little outdated.

The choice of body color is, unfortunately, limited - either black or steel blue, although other colors may be available in France.

Battery and charging

The NI-MH battery with a nominal capacity of 500 mAh is built into the removable rear panel of the phone. According to technical data, it should be enough for 130 hours of waiting, in reality - about 3 days of work with an average (15 minutes per day) conversational load. The battery is mounted on a spring latch and is of very high quality - the battery is securely fixed and does not dangle in the connector.

The SIM card is easily inserted into the fixing socket, where it is securely pressed against the corresponding metal holder with contact pads.

Let's try to turn on the device (I note that turning the phone on and off is separated into two different keys). The phone reports both its belonging to the Sagem family and its GSM 900-1800 dual-standard, can display one line of the previously entered greeting. Registration on the network is very fast, I would say, with this device - just instantly. After registering in the network, the phone displays the service name of the operator (for reference, the service name and the operator's logo may differ, for example, UA-GTS is the service name, and GT Telecom is the operator's logo). A blinking LED is located in the upper right part of the case, with a flashing green-orange light it signals the availability of the network.

Display and menu

The phone is equipped with a large 4-line non-graphic display (2 lines of text + 2 lines of status icons). There is the possibility of multi-stage adjustment of the display contrast and forced turning off of the backlight.

Rubberized keys of the device in black are at a sufficient distance from each other. This is optimal for people with relatively large hands who have difficulty managing, for example, such mobile crumbs as Siemens or Nokia.

The menu system, in my opinion, is very convenient and transparent for the user. The functions are accessed by the navigation button, which allows you to navigate through the main menu bar on the display, pressing OK for more in-depth viewing and setting.

A good feature of the phone is the ability to customize the three programmable keys located at the top of the keyboard to access the menu items of the phone. True, the list of possible functions for setting quick access to them is limited for some reason. You can select from the following set: silent mode, phonebook browsing, last number repeat, dialing a programmed number from a phonebook, reading messages, voicemail. The work is quite convenient, although sometimes it still seems that Motorola has thought out its type of "quick menu" best of all.

Speakerphone

Sagem has a built-in hands-free system, or speakerphone. For example, in an office or car, you can talk by placing the phone next to a table or car seat. True, in a car, the speakerphone does not justify itself, even at maximum volume it is not very good to hear. The same picture was observed on a noisy street - a sensitive microphone picked up everything except my voice. Accordingly, in the car and on the street it makes sense to use the car Hands Free. The transition from the normal conversation mode to the loudspeaker is done by pressing the "dial" key during a conversation, or simply by pressing it twice when dialing a number. Hands-free mode is indicated by changing the flashing handset indicator in the left corner of the display to the speaker image. At the same time, the LED on the handset begins to change its color uniformly from green to orange.

Networking and Sensitivity

All Sagem phones traditionally have the highest sensitivity, and sometimes they work in places where the work of other brands is very difficult or even impossible. Sagem did not fall out of the general outline, demonstrating miracles of quality and accessibility of communication. However, there is nothing surprising in this, although an interesting feature was sometimes noticed: although the network indicator showed several divisions, it was not possible to talk or call normally. The optimism of the phone impressed - most often it is really justified. The phone supports speech coding according to the EFR standard and there were no complaints about the quality of voice transmission.

signals

And in this area, the Sagem designers have done their best. With a choice of 40 different melodies and signals, there is where to roam. Five-level ringer volume control. On the highest of them, the ringer is very loud, but the sound seems somewhat toy, similar to the sound of children's electronic games, which really does not seem surprising given the tiny size of the phone. There is a vibrating alert, quite conveniently customizable - you can make the phone only vibrate or vibrate, and then squeak, or at first a beep, and then vibro. The phone will again tell you about the depletion of the battery or the loss of the network with a persistent squeak.

Notebook and SMS

In addition to memory for 120 SIM card numbers, the phone has its own address book with a capacity of 40 numbers. The check of the number of free memory cells is implemented remarkably simply - it is always possible to check its fullness with unnecessary numbers, and remove unnecessary ones.

Working with SMS is quite convenient, but somewhat specific. The phone allows you to store up to 15 messages on the SIM card and up to 10 messages in its own memory. Some inconvenience is caused by the inability to delete messages before they are completely read - it is impossible to delete immediately without reading them. When composing your own message, the Simplified Text Input (T9) system works. Although this system was present in my phone, it was only for the German language. However, this is a matter of flashing the regional version of the firmware. As in the phone book, you can view the number of remaining free memory cells for storing SMS and reply to their senders.

Additional functions

The phone has a built-in clock and calendar, but I would especially like to note the alarm clock and timer. Actually, there is only one difference between them - the alarm goes off at the specified time, and the timer, after the specified interval (up to 24 hours). Both the alarm clock and the timer are rather persistently reminded of themselves by melodious beeping for about 15 seconds. The activation of these functions is confirmed by the corresponding status icons on the display. The presence of a calculator and a currency converter is incredibly pleasing. Of the features of using a calculator, one can single out some confusion in the arrangement of mathematical functions on the phone's keyboard. So, addition-subtraction is performed using the navigation button, and multiplication-division using "*" and "#". It's a little unclear the first time. In the settings of the currency converter, you can enter your own currency designations and their exchange rate.

Disadvantages noticed

A very weak backlight can be called a flaw in the design, at night it is difficult to make out where which key is, and the phone's "slowing down" DSP processor, although this may be the intention of the designers - all commands are executed with a small, about half a second delay

Summary

A small and inexpensive phone, it will bring you a lot of joy and will not cramp your pocket both in size and from a financial point of view.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Trap for positrons 05.03.2019

Scientists from Germany have developed a magnetic trap for positrons. Further, it is planned to refine the method of confining and preserving positrons over a long period of time and obtaining electron-positron plasma.

Scientists from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) have succeeded for the first time in capturing positrons, the antiparticles of electrons, without loss in a magnetic trap. This is an important step in creating a plasma from matter and antimatter, namely from electrons and protons. It is believed that such plasmas arise near neutron stars and black holes.

The ability to capture and hold positrons is fundamental to the study of plasmas of electron-positron pairs. Such plasmas are of great interest for studying fundamental questions in plasma physics and astrophysics.

Positrons are antiparticles of electrons that have similar properties, except for the charge: for positrons, it is positive, not negative. When a positron collides with an electron, both instantly annihilate in a flash of light. Since we are surrounded by electrons everywhere on Earth, it is extremely difficult to keep positrons so that they last at least for a while.

Fortunately, scientists have developed NEPOMUC, the world's most powerful positron source, located in Garching north of Munich, capable of producing up to 900 million positrons per second.

Plasma physicists have been stimulating this electron-positron plasma for 40 years, but they are only now approaching a real breakthrough. The fact is that it is very difficult to move charged particles such as positrons into a magnetic trap: the same laws of physics that keep particles inside it prevent the right particles from getting into it.
