NOKIA 8310

In October, many new cell phone models appeared on the Russian market. So Nokia 8310 began to be sold in our country almost at the same time as all over the world. It's no secret that Nokia phones are always looked forward to. This brand has an army of fans, which is explained both by the quality of the phones produced and by the successful advertising and pricing policy. Model 8310 is no exception. In the first days after the start of sales, the most natural boom was observed: people bought the device, knowing only its characteristics and turning the phone for a couple of minutes in their hands. Note also that the price of the 8310 is now a little too high - salons are skimming the cream, selling the novelty from Nokia to the most impatient.

Nokia 8310 is a logical continuation of the 8210 model, which has become one of the most popular on the market: it still holds the leading position in the class of fashion phones, despite the fact that new, more advanced devices from other manufacturers have appeared. When developing the design of the 8310, the model 8210 was taken as the basis. External changes are more cosmetic in nature: for example, the interchangeable front panel is made of translucent plastic; the screen bezel, like the back panel, is matte silver, almost white; there is a black protrusion on the back panel - it looks very interesting. Initially, Nokia 8310 will be available in 3 main colors, additionally, the user will be able to purchase branded panels in 6 colors.

According to available information, phones of only 5 colors will be officially delivered to our country. It is possible to change the keyboard, in total 5 different colors are available. The dimensions of the phone are relatively small - 97 x 43 x 19 mm, about the same dimensions as the 8210 (101,5 x 44,5 x 17,4 mm). In terms of weight, the phones also do not differ much: 8310 weighs 5 grams more - 84 grams. The weight has increased slightly, but now, according to the manufacturer, the phone will work in standby mode from 100 to 400 hours, talk time - from 2.15 to 4 hours, and listen to the radio - up to 20 hours. Such high performance is achieved through the use of a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 750 mAh.

The time to fully charge the battery is about 2 hours. With a small number of calls (up to 6 minutes a day), the phone can work for about 5 days. The operating time is sharply reduced if you listen to the radio: for example, when using reminders, an alarm clock, wap (only 5 minutes), 26 minutes of calls, listening to the radio for 2 hours a day, the phone was able to work for about 3 days - this is a very good result.

But back to design. The phone's weakest point is its keyboard. Small keys of a strange, almost triangular shape are closely spaced, and it is very difficult to press them. Of course, this is partly due to the small size of the device itself, but on the same Nokia 8210, dialing was not so tedious. The keyboard is extremely inconvenient, it can spoil the overall impression of the phone. The call and end keys are located very close to the soft keys, and when the phone rings, it is easy to press another key in a hurry.

Such a poor implementation of the keyboard by Nokia seemed impossible, and the phone moved from rough male hands to graceful female fingers. But the miracle did not happen: the verdict was the same - it is inconvenient to dial a number and use the phone because of the keyboard.

The phone's on/off button, located in the upper end of the case, is heavily recessed - to turn on the device, you either have to press hard with your finger or immediately press it with your fingernail.

The 8310's display is virtually identical to the 8210's (graphics, high contrast, up to 5 lines of text). True, a bright violet-colored backlight appeared, which turns on very smoothly and also goes out, leaving the most pleasant impression. By the way, the keyboard backlight is also quite bright.

Menus, functionality and more

It is one of the most advanced fashion devices in terms of the set of features. The phone's menu is typical for devices from Nokia; each item and sub-item is numbered, quick navigation is provided. In total, there are 12 items in the main menu, the new ones are Affairs and Radio. The To Do item allows you to create an appropriate list, which can later be taken out separately or moved to the calendar, where the organizer is traditionally located. The menu item of the same name offers several new features. In particular, the 8310 provides a very, in my opinion, a useful function of auto-erasing old notes and cases after 1, 3 or 6 months.

The function of auto-correction of hours has appeared, the meaning of which is the ability to automatically (via the operator's network) set the time and inform the user about all current changes; If desired, of course, this function can be disabled.

The Radio item opens access to the FM receiver, to listen to which a stereo headset is supplied with the phone. The station frequency is tuned both manually and automatically. With manual tuning, you need to enter the frequency, and without confirming the input, you will not hear the sound, which is not always convenient, especially when you do not remember the exact frequency. During automatic search, the phone searches for working stations in the range from 87.5 MHz to 108 MHz, if one of them is found, you can save it or continue searching. The Manual tuning item is intended for more precise tuning of an already caught station. You can store up to 20 stations under your name in the phone's memory. To switch from one to another, you need to press the corresponding key on the headset, the stations change cyclically (only saved ones).

The volume of the headset is more than enough: at the maximum you start to feel, if not in a disco, then at least next to the speaker of the music center operating at full power. On the street, the effect of playing the radio is much less, but still sufficient. The sound in the headset is clear, without wheezing - the radio works perfectly. By the way, if the headset wire is strongly twisted, wheezing may occur.

Now let's dwell on other, no less interesting functions of the device. The Messages menu hides a lot of options for working with SMS. Traditionally, input in Russian is provided: now, in addition to simple typing, there is a predictive text input (T9 dictionary). There are 10 templates in Russian and 10 picture templates right there. Unfortunately, if the length of the menu bar is longer than the width of the screen, it is cut off, an ellipsis is put instead of the end - and you have to climb inside to view the template. As you have already understood, the phone allows you to send pictures to Nokia devices, there is no EMS support yet. You can create your own folders for storing messages.

The phone book is designed for 500 names, for each of which you can enter several fields, similar to how it is implemented in Nokia 6210. For any of the numbers, you can save a voice tag, which will later be used for voice dialing (up to 10). It is possible to create groups of subscribers, set up personal signals for certain groups, enable a filter in which only subscribers of certain groups can reach you (a bell will ring). In 8310, it became possible to temporarily activate another one instead of the current profile (there are 5 in total). To do this, just select the desired profile, the Temporary item and specify the time to turn off the profile.

By the way, for quick navigation through the menu, you can record up to 10 labels, this function is available in the Extra menu. There are also voice recorder settings that allow you to make a 3-minute recording, including during a conversation (for this you need to press the left soft key twice). Entries can be viewed, unnecessary ones can be deleted. In the Extras menu you will also find a countdown timer and a stopwatch (there are intermediate values, saving the list). The calculator, which should have been placed here, is made a separate paragraph.

The phone has 35 melodies and ring tones, there are melodies combined in rhythm with a vibration signal. It is possible to create your own melody or receive one via SMS. The volume of the call is enough to hear the phone from the bag, but not in a noisy place, so I advise you to carry the phone with you and turn on the vibrating alert, which, although not particularly powerful, is still better than in 8210. One cannot but say about games; there are three of them in the phone, in addition to those that are available via the network. These are Snake (2nd version), Pairs and Pinball. The last toy is very good, in my opinion.

And, perhaps, the most interesting thing is support for packet data transfer, or simply GPRS. This technology was introduced primarily for viewing wap-resources via a GPRS connection. This is evidenced by the fact that the Nokia 8310 does not provide a cable for data transmission and connection with a PC, only an infrared port. Therefore, I was wondering if it is possible to work with GPRS via infrared - as it turned out, it is possible. The test was carried out on a Jornada 568 PDA running Pocket PC2002, all settings were identical to those for Ericsson R520m. The connection speed only allowed browsing websites. Large pages loaded poorly, but this is not due to the shortcomings of the phone software, but to the limited capabilities of the Beeline network.

The sound quality, sensitivity and other parameters of this device are quite comparable with those of the 8210 - everything is up to the mark.

Сonclusion

The characteristics of the device are very good, it has all the functions necessary for an advanced consumer of cellular services. The most serious shortcoming of the phone is the inconvenience of the keypad, and for me personally it crosses out all the advantages of this model. However, many will surely like the design of the 8310, and happy owners of the new device from Nokia will not pay attention to some of its shortcomings. I'm not afraid to repeat myself and say that the stuffing of this phone is really very high quality. It's a pity, but the first deliveries of phones are not equipped with software, I hope that in the future the situation will change.

For the first time, a radio appeared in an image class device, and a well-realized one at that. Other innovations are no less interesting and useful. What remains to be stated - the category of fashion phones has replenished with another worthy representative, this time from Nokia. Nokia 8310 will be a popular device, there is no doubt about it.

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Dyson Solarcycle Morph Desk Light 28.09.2023

Dyson has unveiled the Solarcycle Morph Desk Light, which has a potential lifespan of up to 60 years. This is an improved version of the Solarcycle product released in 2019. Solarcycle Morph is able to automatically adapt the light mode according to natural light at different times of the day, offering four modes: indirect lighting, task mode, functional lighting and environment. Its purpose is to eliminate flicker, glare and lack of brightness, which can negatively affect visual comfort and cause eye fatigue.

The Dyson Solarcycle Morph Desk Light adjusts lighting based on the user's age, current mood, task at hand and ambient light levels. In indirect light mode, the lampshade rotates 360 degrees, reflecting light from the floor or surface. The work light produces a bright and directional light output for optimal illumination of the task.

Functional light is used when spot artificial lighting of a small area or surface is required. Ambient mode directs light downward, illuminating the entire room. Users can switch between different lighting modes using the MyDyson mobile app.

The Solarcycle Morph is a table lamp, but can also be mounted on a floor stand in some markets. However, the most impressive feature of this lamp is its potential lifespan of up to 60 years. Dyson says heatpipe technology provides energy-independent cooling for the LEDs, which is the basis for the lamp's longevity.

It is important to note that the 60 year life expectancy is based on an average daily use of the Solarcycle Morph lamp for 8 hours per day. The Dyson Solarcycle Morph Desk Light is priced at $899 on Amazon, which positions it at the premium end of the price range. The lamp is expected to hit the Australian market soon and will be available in other countries.
