cocklebur prickly

Prickly cocklebur is an easily recognizable plant due to the sharp light yellow trifoliate spines located at the base of the leaves.

A common weed in the middle and southern parts of Russia in Siberia, Asia Minor and Europe. Young cocklebur leaves are occasionally used as food for salads and green borscht. Fresh leaves are very popular in China, Korea and Eastern Mongolia, where they are used to make salads without salt. In Central Asia and the Caucasus, wild radish, sorrel or sorrel leaves are added to such salads to add spice.

Cocklebur is a well-known weed, which in Ukraine is called "non-necessary". However, it has medicinal properties and is used in home cosmetics.

The cocklebur seeds contain 43% oil, reminiscent of sunflower oil in taste, and poppy seed oil in chemical composition. In recent years, the question has been raised about the use of cocklebur as an oil plant and the need, in connection with this, for selection and breeding of non-thorny and high-yielding varieties of seed processing to produce oil.

In Primorye and the Far East, the local population uses cocklebur fruits in the same way as sunflower seeds (as a delicacy, fried or raw). The only bad thing is that the fruits of cocklebur are covered with a hard and prickly shell.

In folk medicine, cocklebur herb juice is used to treat childhood urticaria, lichen, throat tumors. Seeds and roots help with bloody diarrhea and heartburn.

Cocklebur has not been studied at all by official medicine. In folk medicine, cocklebur decoction is used as a disinfectant, disinfectant that destroys rashes and treats fungal skin diseases. Cossacks washed their head and face with a decoction of cocklebur after shaving to get rid of acne and various inflammations. A strong decoction of durniishik burns a little after shaving, like cologne.

The juice of the herb is used to treat childhood urticaria, lichen, and throat swelling. Of all the plants in the temperate zone, cocklebur is the richest in iodine.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Microsoft data center at the bottom off the coast of Scotland 08.06.2018

A data center (DPC) typically generates a lot of heat and noise, and its location may be less than optimal. The solution to all three problems can be underwater data centers created by Microsoft as part of the Natic project.

After a long testing of prototypes, the developers put into operation the first trial center of its kind. The data center, the size of a standard 40-foot container, was towed out to sea off the coast of Scotland, loaded and secured to the seabed. The sealed enclosure contains 12 racks with 864 servers already handling workloads. In addition, a cooling system is mounted in the case, but it is much simpler than that which would be required in the traditional placement of the data center. When operating at full load, the center consumes almost 0,25 MW. Energy is supplied by cable from a wind farm located on land. Fiber optic connections are used for data transmission.

Over the next 12 months, project participants will carefully monitor all indicators - from energy consumption and humidity inside the case, to temperature and noise levels, as well as assess the impact on the environment. According to their plan, the underwater data center will be able to operate without maintenance for five to ten years.

Living offshore may seem counter-intuitive, but more than half of the world's population lives within 200 km of a coastline - an area with rich renewable energy potential. By locating data centers here, it is possible to provide local communities with high-speed access to online services. In addition, deployment is relatively fast. So if all goes according to plan, Project Natick could be the beginning of a transformation in how we deliver online resources to consumers.
