ERICSSON T20S. Mobile phone review Review The package includes the phone itself, a travel charger (fast charge), a strap for carrying the phone on your hand. When you take the phone out of the box, you feel that it fits nicely in your hand. In my opinion, the body shape of the T20 is close to ideal, though for my hand (I emphasize it for mine, it can be too big for a girl). The dimensions of the device are not too large 101x54x28 mm, and the weight of 128 grams, although not so familiar compared to other devices, is quite acceptable. The weight is largely determined by the mass of the battery, in this model it is a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1150 mAh. According to the manufacturer, standby time is from 120 to 200 hours, and talk time is from 4 to 10 hours. In practice, these numbers are less, but, nevertheless, it is quite realistic to go through with the phone from 4 to 5 days with 20 minutes of calls per day. It is worth noting that Ericsson uses such capacious batteries in its latest phones, for example, Ericsson A2618s, A2628s. The fastening of the battery to the body of the transceiver is very reliable and I think that there should be no problems with contacts and turning off the phone (like in the T10). The battery is not only fixed with a latch, but also sinks into the case by about half a centimeter, while there is a slight horizontal play, but the main thing is that the battery is fixed very securely vertically. The contacts are rather thick pins that are pressed against the battery itself in a closed form, the design is much more reliable than those used previously. The SIM card holder is made quite simple, the card simply slips into place. Despite the absence of an additional lock, the card does not move when the phone vibrates and shakes. But in order to remove the card, you have to make a lot of effort. The holder is designed in such a way that the upper edge partially fixes the card, which prevents it from accidentally falling out of the holder, but the same edge does not allow you to easily remove the SIM card. In my opinion, this design of the holder is very ill-conceived and inconvenient. We turn on the phone and the screensaver plays, the device beeps cheerfully and the inscription of the mobile operator appears on the display. I would like to dwell on the display right away, it is three-line in this model, which, in my opinion, refers to disadvantages, not advantages. As a result, the icons on the screen in the bottom line are not very large, the second disadvantage is that when you look at the display at a slight angle, the network signal indicator is seen quite poorly, but these are nit-picking. The screen backlight is emerald green. In standby mode, in addition to the name of the company of the mobile operator, you can see the icons of the network signal strength (5 bars) and battery charge (no bars, measured dynamically), as well as the clock. By analogy with the R320s, I expected that the side buttons show the status and approximate battery life, but this is not the case, only the date, time (two formats) and the name of the current profile are displayed. The two time formats are, first of all, regular time and Internet time from Swatch. Swatch Internet Time is a feature pioneered by Swatch watches. The day is divided into 1000 bits and regardless of the time zone, the time on the Internet will be the same, for example, if in Los Angeles 06.50, then on this scale @ 618, in Ibiza 15.50, but also @ 618, in Goa 19.20 and @ 618, and finally in Sydney 00.50 and @618. As you can see, the idea is interesting, but not applicable in real life, until everyone has this function in their watches in one form or another, and before that we are oh so far away. Unlike the T28, when the flip is closed, the keyboard buttons cannot be pressed, the lid itself is made very strong and plump. The flip has a microphone hole on both sides. The keyboard is hidden under the lid, it is quite easy to press, the keys are plastic, but pressing the lower keys is extremely inconvenient, as the body of the phone itself interferes. Opening and closing (quite funny) the flip causes the backlight to turn on automatically. Phone settings The phone's menu is implemented quite standardly, so I refer to the description of one, for example, Ericsson A2618s, the only fundamental difference is the three lines of the display. Also, moving through the menu is a little faster, but still not fast enough. From the settings, you can note the possibility of creating your own welcome message, and there is support for a graphic message with sound, but to enable it, you need to download a graphic file to your phone. In the absence of an IR port, this becomes an expensive pleasure (a data cable for transferring data from a PC is not cheap). A one-minute timer that fires during a call. The phone has an alarm clock, a countdown timer, a stopwatch. The calculator is ordinary and very inconvenient. It is possible to customize shortcut keys. There are 6 editable user profiles. The profiles are well organized and therefore easy to use. Working with text on the phone is implemented very well. You can write in one of two languages, i.e. English and Russian (when Russian support is enabled). It is possible to switch at any time when writing the name of the subscriber in the phone book or writing a short message from one language to another, just press #. Also, for SMS messages, you can create up to 10 templates, which is very convenient. The disadvantage of working with short messages on this phone is the screen size, it is painfully inconvenient to read messages larger than a couple of lines of text. But a definite plus is the ability to receive and send short messages without any special settings. Also, for the first time, the function of the SMS message counter appeared, which is sometimes convenient. The phone book with a capacity of 100 numbers is quite sufficient, it is also possible to use the memory of the SIM card, it is possible to save up to 10 e-mail numbers separately. Voice dialing for 10 numbers works quite well, recognizes speech even in noisy conditions. There are groups of subscribers and the possibility of assigning individual melody to individual subscribers. In total, the phone has 10 melodies and the ability to record up to 4 of your own melodies. All these melodies can be used as ringtone or alarm. Naturally, there is a list of recent calls (30 numbers) with the date and time of the call. Autodial works quite well. There are 4 games: Tetris, Erix, E-maze, Ballpop. The communication quality of the T20 is not bad, but despite the fact that you hear the interlocutor well, he hears you a little worse (quieter). Such a picture was observed when calling landline and cellular numbers, and with the latter a phenomenal picture was observed in general. When calling a non-business cell phone (that is, quite cheap), the other person periodically heard a crack instead of my voice, it was impossible to talk, however, and I heard strong noises. The same SIM card (1) and the same place in a minute, but a call to a business device with the same SIM card (2) as before (Siemens S35, Nokia 6210) led to normal communication, but the interlocutor heard me clearly, but quiet. That is, I called, for example, to the cell number 111-11-11 from the cell number 222-22-22, while the number 222-22-22 had a simple phone, for example Ericsson T10s, the connection with such a connection was simply disgusting. When installing a SIM card with the number 111-11-11 in Siemens S35 or Nokia 6210, the connection immediately became an order of magnitude better. Such tests were carried out with MTS and Beeline cards, the result is the same everywhere. However, you can attribute this to this sample of the phone, it is likely that other devices behave in the usual way. The second unpleasant observation was that now the phone does not write "Only 112" in the zone of uncertain reception, it draws two "sticks", but an attempt to call does not lead to anything. Accordingly, at such moments, if you are called, you do not receive a call. It seems to me that it would be better if the phone wrote that the signal is weak, then it would be possible to do something if necessary, but it’s just that you will not be aware that there is actually no network signal. Otherwise, the sensitivity is typical for Ericsson phones, I can't say anything bad or highly praise, it's quite suitable for the city. Now the most interesting thing, namely the ability to view WAP sites. The settings for the MTS this time, in contrast to the Ericsson R380s, were made quite simply. Enter the device menu by pressing the arrow key, select the item - "WAP Services" ("WAP Services"), enter the last sub-item "WAP Settings" ("WAP Settings"), select "Profile 1" ("Profile 1") and make the following settings:
After entering the settings, go to the "WAP Services" menu, enter the WAP Profile submenu and activate Profile MTS. To access the MTS WAP site, select the "MTS" sub-item in the "WAP Services" menu. The Ericsson T20s has a special menu item - "Bookmarks", where you can save the addresses of the most interesting WAP sites. You can also enter the address you are interested in using the phone keypad by entering the "Enter address" menu item, and after pressing the "Yes" key, go to the page with this address. If you liked the page and you want to save it in Bookmarks, you need to press the "Yes" key and do not release it for 2-3 seconds. After that, a menu will appear on the screen of the device, in which you need to select the sub-item "Add Bookmark" (Bookmark) and the address of this page will be stored in the terminal's memory. But I failed to set up this device to work with WAP via Beeline, when I try to authorize, the connection is disconnected, unfortunately, the company's subscriber service could not help me and motivated this by the novelty of the device. Results This is a fairly modern device with the necessary set of functions. However, it suffers from small display size, uncomfortable keyboard (bottom row) and average sensitivity characteristics. T20 is a typical representative of city phones, it can be used quite comfortably in areas with good reception. Compared to the same T28s, the phone acquired only a larger capacity battery (1150 mAh), but not lithium - polymer, which, however, is more of a plus, since polymer batteries brought a lot of problems in T28. The design of the device has also been changed, it has become more youthful. I would recommend this phone to Ericsson brand adherents, those who want to change their old device, but don't know what to choose. I would not like to scold this phone (by and large, for nothing), but I still have a vague feeling of dissatisfaction with the phone. It seems that he can do a lot, but subjectively, the quality of communication outweighs the pros, and despite the fact that the phone shows its temper quite rarely, only once in 10-15 calls, but that was enough for me. However, it's up to you to choose a phone, so good luck and make no mistake in choosing. Author: Eldar Murtazin See other articles Section Mobile Legends.
