When landscaping a personal or summer cottage, as well as during the construction of some other individual object, it is constantly required to fill up the pits and sinuses with soil that needs to be compacted. Ground-tamping work is inevitable, and quite on a large scale, for example, when preparing the foundation for a concrete floor in a building, backfilling the soil into the sinuses of the trench during the construction of the foundation, etc. In the production of these works, such a percussion tool as a rammer is necessary.

The simplest rammer is manual, and it is not difficult for anyone with elementary carpentry skills to make it.

If the workshop has a welding machine (and I think that every self-respecting craftsman now has one), the matter is even more simplified.

The tool is really simple, but in its manufacture it is necessary to take into account several requirements. The main part of the rammer is its shock part, called a little strange - a woman. This detail requires a thorough selection for itself, both in terms of mass and height.

The most suitable material for the woman, I determined a wooden (maple) beam of square section with a side of 150 mm. It would be possible to use a segment of a round log of approximately the same mass and the same sole area. But they would have to ram with a significant overlap of one spot with the next, that is, productivity would decrease, and it is impossible to seal in the corners of the room with a round woman.

It is also possible to manufacture a woman from a segment of a round, square or rectangular steel pipe of a suitable section. However, the handle of such a rammer must be made shock-absorbing or work in anti-vibration gloves.

The advantage of a wooden woman is that she, in itself, significantly "extinguishes" the blow. True, her heel - the lower end must be "hidden" in the sole - upholstered with a steel sheet. It is not necessary to pre-drill holes in the flanges of the sole for nails - you can punch them with the nails themselves when attaching the sole to the woman.

An attentive reader, of course, will notice some differences in the performance of individual parts of the rammer in photographs and drawings. For the most part, this applies to the top of the rammer.

For example, my spacer is made of a steel pipe with a square section of 30x30 mm, and in the drawing it is made of a water pipe (with an outer diameter of 30 mm). But this substitution does not play any practical role. But the handle should be made from a pipe of only a circular cross section, and of such a diameter that it can be completely clasped with the fingers.

As for the mustache at the lining, they are necessary, especially if the woman is made of wood that is not very hard. After all, the lining is fastened to the end of the timber along the fibers of the tree, and, as you know, carpenters and joiners do not recommend doing this. In the presence of a mustache, fastening is carried out according to all the rules.

The rammer does not lie idle even in winter - either it is required to break frozen clods of earth, or snow iced from a drop from the roof, etc. Before starting work on compacting the soil, it would be nice to lubricate the steel sole of the woman with used machine oil.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>
