BUILDER, HOUSEHOLDER
Tracer-potato planter. Tips for the home master Directory / Builder, home master Potatoes are often called the second bread, thus emphasizing the extreme importance of this crop. But in terms of the laboriousness of cultivation, especially on individual plots, it is far from last. Especially if all the work is done here in the old fashioned way, without any means of mechanization. The device I designed, which simultaneously performs two functions: a tracer and a potato planter, is designed to make life easier for the gardener. Seeing the homemade work, the neighbors unanimously desired to get the same (increasing, by the way, almost three times labor productivity during tracing-landing) or its analogue for personal use. Only now it is not possible to satisfy this request: now I have neither the time nor the relevant materials for this. But there are sketches, according to which (see ill.) anyone can personally make an exact (and most importantly, fully functional) copy of the "mechanical assistant" he likes. It is easy to see that the proposed development is based on a welded structure of water and gas pipes. It is equipped with two pit formers, as well as a telescopically retractable bracket and three markers that can be securely fixed in any of the positions provided for this with fixing bolts. On top of that, in the upper part of this design there is a welded sleeve, in which a tubular rack is fixed with the help of an M10 clamping bolt. Branching at the top, the latter forms two handles with limiters at the end of each. Telescopically mating parts and assemblies make it possible not only to relatively easily adapt this device for certain specific operating conditions (for example, to set the required step during tracing-landing), but also to carry out subsequent disassembly for easy carrying and compact storage. As for the manufacturing technology of the structure, everything here, as they say, without significant features. The blanks are pieces of steel water and gas pipes and 1,5 mm steel sheet (St3) of the appropriate (see illustration) sizes. Welding of properly fitted parts is carried out end-to-end. The seam is continuous, followed by grinding on emery.
The proposed development does not have the ability to adjust the distance between the rows, because such a device would inevitably entail additional weighting of the entire structure. For row spacing, the optimal, from my point of view, proven option was chosen. Well, if it doesn’t suit someone, then it doesn’t cost anything to make appropriate adjustments to the presented sketches and make yourself a tracer-potato planter with the distance between the pit formers that will best suit a particular user manufacturer. Now - about the technology of using our mechanical assistant. Having pulled the cord (only for the first row, then it will no longer be required), proceed to the tracing-landing. The device itself is held with both hands, slightly bent at the elbows. Having installed it so that the first pit former is at the peg, and the right marker associated with it goes straight along the cord, they press the base pipe with their right foot in the place indicated in the illustrations by a wide arrow. Immediately on the plot there is a pair of holes for planting potatoes and three marking marks. Two side ones serve as reference points when tracing-landing the next row, and the front one - as a pilot signal for a new (next) installation of a mechanical assistant. Then again comes pressure with the foot (more precisely, a step), as a result of which new holes (holes) are formed for planting potatoes. The case usually moves forward so quickly that the assistants working together with the "operator" barely have time to throw potatoes into the holes that appear while filling them up. Having completed the first run, the workers turn around and just as successfully perform the second run, focusing on the marks left by a pair of side markers. (Although the operator may not turn around, but, as if backing away, continue to work.) Then the third approach follows, the fourth ... And so on - until the potato planting on the site is completed. Further work - whether it be at least weeding, at least hilling or harvesting - is also facilitated: after all, all the rows, as they say, are lined. Especially if here you also have appropriate mechanical assistants such as original hand cultivators, hiller plows, and all kinds of potato diggers.
