Watering the membrane. Tips for the home master

Experienced gardeners water the beds in their gardens and household plots only with warm, settled water. To do this, they fill the barrels placed around the site in the morning, and consume water in the evening or a few days later. Naturally, you have to carry it in buckets or watering cans; hard work, unproductive.

You can, of course, place water containers, say, on the roof of a barn or on a special tower. But, firstly, the height is not enough to obtain the same pressure as from a water supply system, and secondly, a two-hundred-liter barrel is not enough even for irrigation, a vegetable garden, of medium size. The proposed design is free from the listed disadvantages.

The design is a cube with a side of 1000 mm welded from sheet steel 2 mm thick. In principle, the shape of the container can be any: cylindrical, rectangular, spherical. Cubic is chosen only because it is the most technologically advanced.

The container consists of two "shells" held together with M10 bolts. Butt flanges are made in the form of flanges, reinforced with an angle of 40x40 mm. Between them are clamped a sealing rubber gasket and the edges of the membrane - a bag of rubberized fabric, repeating with a small allowance the contours of one of the halves of the tank.

Cube design (click to enlarge): 1 - irrigation hose, 2 - drain fittings, 3 - tank, 4 - pressure hose, 5 - pressure fittings, 6 - stand, 7 - M10 bolt, 8 - angle 40x40 mm, 9 - flanges butt flange, 10 - tank wall, 11 - sealing gasket, 12 - membrane bag, 13 - reinforcing gusset, 14 - movable coupling, 15 - gasket

Four fittings are welded into the end walls of the tank. Valves are screwed onto them, into which, in turn, 3/4" threaded hoses are screwed. Hoses supplying water from the water supply are screwed onto the lower ones, and irrigation hoses are screwed onto the upper ones.

The cube is located on a support from a metal corner. On the outside, it is painted black so that the water heats up faster in the sun. The heating process can be accelerated by taking advantage of the so-called greenhouse effect - placing the cube under a light wooden frame covered with plastic wrap. The layer of air between the film and the tank retains the heat of the heated metal wall well.

The workflow proceeds as follows. One of the lower fittings, for example, the left one, is connected to a water supply or a pump. Cold water begins to flow into the left half of the tank, presses on the bag-membrane and displaces warm water through the upper right fitting for irrigation. At the next watering, the opposite is true: the pressure hose is screwed onto the lower right fitting, and the drain hose onto the upper left. The water warmed during the day is again consumed, fresh - fills the tank.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Metabolic weight gain switch 04.09.2015

Researchers at MIT and Harvard Medical School have discovered a new way to control human metabolism and tell adipocytes, or fat cells, when to store and when to burn fat.

Scientists have found that it's all about the IRX3 and IRX5 genes, which control the process of thermogenesis, in which fats decompose and heat is produced. Usually, the process of thermogenesis is activated by exercise, diet, or sub-zero temperatures, but in some cases, its activation is very difficult.

Studies show that a single nucleotide genetic difference can lead to obesity or overweight. In individuals at risk, the nucleotide base replaces thymine with cytosine, which triggers the action of IRX3 and IRX5. Those, in turn, turn off the process of thermogenesis, which leads to the accumulation of lipids and, over time, to obesity.

By altering this nucleotide using the CRISPR/Cas9 system, a technology that allows precise changes to the DNA sequence, scientists can replace cytosine with thymine and thus turn off IRX3 and IRX5, restore thermogenesis to a safe level, and reduce lipid accumulation.

Suppressing the actions of the IRX3 gene in mice resulted in significant changes in the body's energy balance, reduction in weight and all major fat stores, and resistance to high-fat diets.
