Now in suburban summer cottages, green lawns are very popular, pleasing to the eye with a beautiful grassy carpet. True, they require appropriate care, in terms of labor intensity almost equal to garden chores: the lawn must be cut, watered, and updated in time.

Here is one of the simple but effective methods of urgent turf restoration. Thanks to him, the "repaired" piece is completely invisible, as if there was nothing wrong with the green carpet in this place. And the update technology is as follows.

Depending on the area of the disturbed grass cover, a wide board, a sheet of plywood, chipboard or tin is selected, sufficient to cover the repaired area. Then the stacked sheet is outlined with a shovel so that the turf around it is carefully cut without gaps, in a continuous line.

After that, the sheet is removed and placed in another, some distant section of the lawn: from here it will be possible to painlessly "take" the necessary "patch". There, the operation with a shovel around the sheet is repeated, as in the first case.

Lawn patch
Outlining with a shovel an impromptu "conductor" - a wooden board that covered a damaged area of the lawn. First, this is done on a defective lawn spot, then on a borrowed turf.

Laying a turf "patch" on a repaired lawn area

Now you can return to the damaged area and, using a shovel, carefully cut and remove the defective layer. We perform the same operation with the part of the lawn prepared for the patch. We carefully remove it and transfer it to the repaired place. Here we carefully place the patch on the area freed from the sod, carefully aligning and fitting the edges so that the border-contour remains invisible.

The removed defective layer is also useful: it can be swapped with a patch so that the grass cover is restored there as soon as possible. This will require additional watering of this place - more frequent than the entire lawn. The same applies to the patch: it should also be watered abundantly, especially the first time after transplantation.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Magnetar Research 12.01.2021

A team of astrophysicists from NASA, using one of the most powerful telescopes Chandra X-Ray, managed to detect one of the most unusual cosmic bodies - we are talking about the so-called magnetar J1818.0-1607, belonging to the class of space objects of the same name and representing a really promising specimen for study and disclosure of some secrets of the formation of the Universe. In particular, a team of NASA researchers today noted the fact that they have already managed to reveal some information regarding the formation and location of this magnetar.

A magnetar is a special cosmic object that is formed after a massive supernova decay and has a truly amazing magnetic field - for comparison, if the Earth's magnetic field is about 100 gauss, then the average magnetar has a similar indicator several million times more - thus, if such a magnetar turned out to be close to the Earth at least at a distance of 40 thousand light years, then it would have completely managed to erase all the data from all the magnetic maps of the Earth.

Scientists continue to closely examine the submitted magnetar J1818.01-1607, which contains about 3000 neutron stars and is one of the youngest magnetars ever found - according to preliminary information, its age is about 500 years, which is quite a bit for the average magnetar of this type, not to mention the fact that it also has some hidden properties and features that cannot but attract the attention of scientists.
