There was a time when a cracked radio knob, a split car gear knob forced me to look for a replacement in stores, and, I will not hide, often unsuccessfully. I tried to carve them from various plastics or metal, but this work was laborious and time consuming. In addition, it was far from always possible to bring the homemade product to full compliance with the lost original.

The search for an acceptable way to restore a wide variety of plastic parts eventually led me to the idea of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbusing epoxy for that purpose. It turned out to be an ideal starting material: it is not difficult to “cast” almost any part from it. Ordinary gypsum turned out to be the best shaping material.

When making the form, I adhered to the following technology. To begin with, I picked up a box made of metal or plastic - most often it was a soap dish. Then he filled it (with preliminary lubrication of the inner surface with a thin layer of technical vaseline) up to half with gypsum mortar and immersed in it about half the vaselined part, from which the copy was made. Without waiting for the complete curing of the gypsum, two or three holes were made on its surface with a thin metal spatula.

After the final setting of the gypsum, its surface was again smeared with petroleum jelly and a new portion of gypsum was poured, which completely covered the sample part. Before the last pouring, I put plastic inserts into the mold, forming sprues and sprues.

When the plaster hardened, the mold was disassembled, the sample and plastic inserts were removed from it. In a clean and dry container, the epoxy resin was thoroughly mixed with a hardener (in a ratio of 8: 1), and a dry pigment of the desired color or nitro paint was added to it. Resin was poured into the sprue until it appeared from the extrusion. A day later, I dismantled the form, extracted a copy part from it. It turns out to be almost ready - you just need to remove the sprues and bulges and clean the seam of the mold connector.

If the part has an internal hole, this must be taken into account during mold preparation. If, for example, the handle is intended for a screwdriver, then during the manufacture of the casting, the steel rod of the tool is inserted into the mold. If a threaded hole is needed inside, then a bolt covered with a thin layer of grease is placed in the mold, it is then easily removed from the casting.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

A metallic form of hydrogen has been obtained 20.07.2019

Scientists have long put forward the theory that in the cores of giant gas planets, where high temperatures and enormous pressures reign, even the basic laws of physics undergo drastic changes. Under such extreme conditions, hydrogen is compressed to such a state that this gaseous substance passes into a metallic form. Over the years, a number of attempts have been made to obtain metallic hydrogen in the laboratory, but all these attempts, unfortunately, have not been successful. And only recently a group of French scientists managed to conduct an experiment, the results of which indicate the formation of metallic hydrogen in the depths of the research facility.

The only available way to obtain metallic hydrogen now is to compress hydrogen gas at ultrahigh pressure. The same method was used by French scientists, who registered the transition of hydrogen from one form to another at a pressure of 425 GPa.

This achievement was the result of the use of two novelties by scientists. The first of these innovations is the shape of the diamond "anvil" tip, which has a toroidal shape with a depression in the central part. This shape of the tip, in contrast to the previously used flat tips, in theory makes it possible to obtain a pressure of up to 600 GPa.

The second component of the scientists' success was the infrared spectrometer based on the SOLEIL synchrotron source. This spectrometer, designed and manufactured for this experiment, has a very high sensitivity, which made it possible to measure the optical properties of hydrogen in the infrared range.

When the pressure on hydrogen, cooled to a temperature of 80 K (-193 degrees Celsius), was raised to 425 GPa, hydrogen began to absorb all infrared radiation falling on it, which indicates the formation of the so-called "forbidden zone" and serves as an indicator of the appearance of metallic form of hydrogen.
