Why is the diameter of the arena in any modern circus 13 meters?

The circus in its modern form appeared in the 18th century, and the Englishman Philip Astley is considered its "father". It was he who empirically established that it is most convenient for horses to run in a full gallop in a circle with a diameter of 13 meters. This diameter of the arena is observed today in most circuses in the world.

How does a chameleon catch prey?

The body of the chameleon is flattened laterally, the tail is twisted in a spiral and can cling tightly to branches. Fingers are also adapted to this. The eyes of a chameleon can look independently in different directions, for example, one - up, the other - back. This allows the animal to inspect the surroundings, remaining completely motionless, which is very important for him.

The chameleon is able to quickly change color to match the color of the surrounding background. But he doesn't know how to move fast. Only a patient person can notice how he moves.

The fact is that the chameleon does not run after prey, he waits for her to come to him herself. If she's not close enough, he takes a few slow steps towards her. And as soon as the insect is within reach ... of its tongue, it immediately falls into its mouth, before you have time to blink an eye.

The length of the chameleon's tongue can exceed the length of the body, and it straightens out in hundredths of a second. Not only is the tongue sticky, but also its forked tip grabs the victim, like with tweezers. When a chameleon approaches a prey, it may look at it with one eye, while the other may rummage around. But before throwing out the tongue, the lizard directs both eyes at the prey - apparently in order to accurately aim.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Color monitor with electronic ink 05.08.2023

Dasung Technology from China has introduced an innovative monitor that combines a color matrix with electronic ink (E-Ink) technology.

This monitor becomes the first in the world to embody the color gamut based on E-Ink technology. The device incorporates a 25,3-inch Kaleido RGB panel inside a slim body.

The display resolution of the monitor is 3200 x 1800 pixels, capable of transmitting 4096 shades of colors.

The unique Dasung X-Color Filter technology implemented in the device improves the contrast and brightness of the image, and also provides the ability to adjust the level of darkening of the text. This monitor is based on the same typical matrix as e-books.

The enjoyment of this Dasung Technology Super Low Power Display promises to attract many users. However, it should be noted that this device has some limitations compared to traditional monitors: the absence of a backlight, which makes the image on the screen less saturated and more blurry.
