On what planes and why was a periscope installed?

The Soviet T-4 supersonic bomber was developed as an effective weapon against American aircraft carriers. When flying at an altitude of up to 24 km, he could reach a speed of 3000 km / h, so that enemy radar stations did not have time to direct an anti-aircraft missile at the aircraft. Such technical requirements required several extraordinary solutions from the designers, among which is a deflectable bow. At extreme altitudes and speeds, the nose was raised to reduce drag, and the pilot could only control the aircraft using instruments, but during takeoff and landing, the nose deviated and provided an overview. And in case of an emergency failure of the bow of the T-4, it was equipped with a periscope retractable above the cockpit.

How is butter made?

Most of the butter sold in shops and markets is produced at oil mills that buy milk and sour cream from farmers.

After the sour cream is cleared of impurities, it is pasteurized. Most of the oil is produced from sweet sour cream. Sometimes pure sourdough is added to it - bacteria that produce lactic acid, mixed with other microorganisms. They help sour cream to ripen, to reach the desired condition. Sometimes dyes are added. Then the beating starts. It is produced in special rotating drums, where sour cream turns into a thick mass. Whipping takes about an hour. After that, the mixture is washed with water, the water drains. What remains is the oil.

Sometimes salt is added to the oil. The oil is kneaded mechanically until the desired density and water content are reached. Then the oil hardens, it is ready for packaging. Initially, it is packaged in large containers weighing about 30 kilograms. Then these packages are opened again and the oil is hung on the scales in any convenient quantities.

Man has been making oil since ancient times. It is mentioned many times in the Bible. In Proverbs 30-33: "Surely churning milk will produce butter." The Hindus used oil as early as 900 BC. e. It was part of their religious rites.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Sleeping before bed improves memory 06.02.2019

Children are usually rocked before bed so that they fall asleep faster. But, as experiments show, lulling helps to sleep not only for children, but also for adults. Researchers from the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne invited 18 volunteers to spend three nights in the laboratory. On the first night, they simply got used to the new environment, and on the other two, some participants in the experiment began to rock on a special bed before going to bed, while others continued to sleep as usual.

Those who were rocked fell asleep faster, slept longer, their sleep was deeper. And their memory also improved: in the morning, those who were rocked, remembered better the pairs of words that they were asked to learn before going to bed.

Brain activity during sleep was recorded using electroencephalography. It turned out that rhythmic motion sickness helps to synchronize neural activity in thalamocortical neural networks, which are actively involved in the regulation of sleep and the transformation of memory from short-term to long-term.
