What product is often sold in Russian stores under the guise of asparagus?

In Russian stores you can often see "salad with asparagus", although the long white pieces in it have nothing to do with asparagus. In fact, this is the "foam" formed when soy milk, or fuju, is boiled.

Which of the seven wonders of the world has survived to this day?

Pyramids - the tombs of the ancient pharaohs for thousands of years lead people into amazement. They were erected by ingenious craftsmen, experts in lifting weights, skillful masons.

The three largest pyramids rise on the Giza plateau, which is not far from Cairo. The most grandiose pyramid of Pharaoh Cheops (XXVII century BC) reaches a height of 146,6 meters. The pyramid is composed of 2,5 thousand stone blocks, each of which weighs about 2,5 tons. The slabs are carefully hewn and fit so tightly together that even a thin knife blade cannot pass between them. The plates are not attached to anything. Once the pyramid was lined with limestone, and its four sides, like a mirror, reflected the sun's rays, presenting a majestic sight. This is the only one of the seven wonders of the world that has survived to this day.

The height of the pyramid of Khafre is almost the same as that of Cheops, but its base is 15 meters shorter and the ribs are steeper. At the top of the pyramid, the limestone facing is almost intact.
The third pyramid, the Pyramid of Menkaure, is much smaller than the other two. Its height is slightly more than 66 meters. Up to a third of the height, the pyramid is lined with granite, and above - with limestone.

The three pyramids are guarded by the Sphinx, a statue of a fantastic creature with the body of a lion and the head of a man. On his head is a ritual headdress, klaft. Some researchers believe that the Sphinx has the face of Pharaoh Khafre, others that the statue appeared here earlier. In ancient Egypt, sphinxes were placed in front of temples and tombs in the belief that neither day nor night they close their eyes, and the power and strength of the Sphinxes is the support of the order of the entire universe.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

IKEA Qi wireless charger 23.09.2021

IKEA has unveiled a device called the Sjomarke, which is a built-in Qi wireless charger that can easily upgrade almost any table or shelving unit.

A couple of years ago, IKEA started selling furniture with built-in wireless chargers, and in 2019, in collaboration with Xiaomi, they released a table that supports 20W wireless charging. Now the Swedish furniture giant has decided to add wireless charging to its range to modernize old furniture.

The Sjomarke device can be easily hidden under the surface of a table or cabinet - it can be fixed both with double-sided tape and with self-tapping screws. Any non-metallic surface with a thickness of 8 to 22 millimeters will do.

The novelty is compatible with the Qi 1.2.4 protocol and provides power up to 5 watts. Also, the device is equipped with an LED charging indicator and a temperature and power control system for safety. The kit includes a two-meter power cable and a transparent sticker "X" to indicate the charging location on the surface.

The IKEA Sjomarke Wireless Charger will go on sale at IKEA in October for a suggested price of $40.
