Which object from Shakespeare's play has become half the size in Russian translation?

The catchphrase from Shakespeare's tragedy "Richard III" is widely known: "A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!" In the original, the king offers exactly twice as much, that is, the whole kingdom: "A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse!". Regarding the origin of this inaccuracy in the translation of the actor Yakov Bryansky, there are two opinions. Perhaps it is due to the fact that Bryansky did not use the English text, but the French prose translation. Or he deliberately changed the size under the influence of Russian fairy tales, where for feats they often promise the hand of the king's daughter and half the kingdom in addition.

Why does the Black Sea sometimes glow at night?

For a long time, the glow of the sea at night was one of the most mysterious marine secrets for scientists. It turned out that it is caused by the luminescent properties of some marine organisms. In the Black Sea, for example, sometimes luminous in autumn, such an organism is an alga called nightweed.

The influence of attitudes towards old age on human health 21.04.2024

Aging is a natural process, but our attitude towards it can have a profound impact on our physical and mental well-being. New research from Trinity College Dublin has found that having a positive outlook on aging can help you stay physically and cognitively active into old age. Let's take a closer look at the results of this study. Researchers from Trinity College Dublin conducted extensive research into the impact of attitudes towards old age on physical and mental health. They analyzed data from 4135 participants in the Irish Longitudinal Study of Aging (TILDA), conducting questionnaires and testing their cognitive abilities and physical parameters. The results of the study showed that people who have a positive attitude towards old age are more likely to maintain their physical and mental activity in old age. They scored higher on cognitive tests and had better physical mobility ... >>

Neuromorphic computer Hala Point 21.04.2024

Neuromorphic computers represent a new era in computing, inspired by the architecture of the human brain. They promise a revolution in artificial intelligence, helping to solve complex problems more efficiently. One of the latest pioneers in this area is the neuromorphic computer Hala Point, presented by Intel. Intel has entered a new era of computing with the introduction of its latest breakthrough in neuromorphic architecture, the Hala Point computer. Designed based on the principles of the human brain, this supercomputer promises to revolutionize artificial intelligence. Hala Point is capable of processing huge amounts of data with unprecedented speed and efficiency. The supercomputer can perform up to 30 quadrillion operations per second and has a memory bandwidth of 16 petabytes per second. This allows it to solve problems 100 times more efficiently and 50 times faster compared to ... >>

Sony SmartWatch 2 30.06.2013

Sony has introduced the second generation of its smart watches with a touch screen - SmartWatch 2. Running on the Android system, the watch will replace last year's Sony SmartWatch. They differ from it in an enlarged display (1,6 inches instead of 1,3) and an increased resolution (220 by 176 pixels instead of 128 by 128 pixels).

In addition, the new watch supports NFC wireless technology (it allows you to quickly establish a connection between two devices) and is not afraid of splashing water. Swimming and showering in the watch, however, is not allowed. Like the previous model, SmartWatch 2 combines the functions of a clock and a remote control for a smartphone. The watch is connected to a mobile device (it is required that it works on Android 4.0 and higher) via Bluetooth.

By tapping the watch screen, you can control the smartphone's camera, receive or reject calls, read SMS, letters and messages from social networks, adjust the volume of the player or switch tracks. Only applications written specifically for them can be installed on the watch. "Regular" applications for Android smartphones and tablets cannot be run on the device.

SmartWatch 2 will go on sale in September 2013. How much the watch will cost, Sony has not yet announced. The price for the previous model at the time of the start of sales, we recall, was 150 US dollars.

"Smart watches", that is, devices that combine the capabilities of watches and PDAs, have been produced since the early 2000s. In recent years, interest in them has increased - for example, Pebble watches, similar in capabilities to SmartWatch, have become absolute champions in terms of collections on the Kickstarter website. According to rumors, Apple, Microsoft and Samsung are planning to release "smart watches".
