What is radiation?

In its most general form, radiation is the propagation of waves of energy. You are familiar with this phenomenon from early childhood, although you did not know what it was. When you hold your hand in front of a hot stove, or a radiator, or a light bulb, you feel the heat radiate. When you sit in the sun, radiation called "ultraviolet rays" affects your skin. These are all examples of electromagnetic radiation.

The other main type of radiation is called radioactive radiation. It comes from radioactive materials or nuclear reactions. Radiation emits particles and waves of energy. Since electromagnetic radiation is the propagation of waves of energy, we should know something about these waves. The distance between the waves is called the wavelength. The number of waves passing through a given point per second is called the frequency. And we will call a group of waves in a certain range of wavelengths a spectrum.

The group with the shortest wavelength is called the X-ray spectrum. Then comes the ultraviolet spectrum. Behind it is the spectrum of visible light, the waves of which we see. In the next range, the waves get longer and we can no longer see them. This is the infrared spectrum.

Even longer wavelengths are used in radio, television, and radar. Where is the source of these waves? In some cases, machines are needed to create them, in others they are obtained in nature. Natural waves come, for example, from the Sun. In order to cause radiation, energy is needed. As for the Sun, energy is created here as a result of a thermonuclear reaction. And to get X-rays, the target must be bombarded with particles.

Radioactive radiation is the process of change or decay that certain elements undergo. Such chemical elements are called radioactive. They emit particles (and waves) as a result of the splitting of the nuclei of their atoms.

There are now 91 million cats and dogs living in cities in China, and the number has increased rapidly in recent years.

The developers plan not only to reunite owners with lost pets, but also to track those dog owners who walk them without muzzles or do not clean up feces after them.
