Which snake feeds exclusively on bird eggs much larger than itself?

The African egg snake is unique in that it can feed exclusively on bird eggs, which can be much larger in diameter than the snake itself. She succeeds in this thanks to the very mobile joints of the bones of the skull, underdeveloped teeth and special processes of the cervical vertebrae. It is thanks to them that the snake opens the shell, swallowing the liquid and then spitting out the remains of the shell.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What is the Zodiac?

In ancient times, when people looked at the sky at night, they noticed that many bright stars were arranged in a certain order and formed groups. These groups are what we call constellations. The name comes from a Latin word meaning "a group of stars". In every ancient civilization, people gave names to these constellations, naming them after gods, heroes, or animals or well-known objects.

Studying the constellations, the ancient man noticed that they were moving across the sky. Certain constellations appeared in the spring, passed through the sky, and then disappeared. They were followed by summer, autumn and winter constellations. In the process of observation, 12 constellations stood out most clearly. The sun and moon rose and set in the part of the sky where these 12 constellations were located. And so that part of the sky, through which the Sun, Moon and planets passed, was called the Zodiac, which means "circle of living beings." This name appeared because most of the constellations bore the names of living beings. The zodiac was divided by the ancients into 12 sectors, each named after one of the 12 constellations.

We know these constellations under the names: Taurus (bull), Aries (ram), Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn (goat), Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo, Leo, Cancer and Gemini. The twelve constellations are called the signs of the Zodiac. Every month a new sign of the Zodiac appears on the eastern horizon, and the Sun and Moon seem to emerge from that sign. In addition to the 12 constellations of the Zodiac, 36 more were well known to people in ancient times, and together were called the "ancient" constellations. Later, 40 other constellations were discovered, and they became known as "new" constellations.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

New solar panel efficiency record 19.12.2014

Scientists from the University of New South Wales (Australia) have managed to radically increase the efficiency of solar panels.

The efficiency of solar cells currently used does not exceed 25%, and with the help of technology developed by Australian researchers, 40% of sunlight was converted into electricity. The record-breaking efficiency of solar cells was achieved using innovative optical filters that only allow light of a certain wavelength to pass through. Thanks to this, the panels received more light, which has already been confirmed by tests on the streets of Sydney.

The technique is also being used to improve the efficiency of solar arrays in photovoltaic towers, which are gaining popularity in Australia. Such a tower is surrounded by mirrors that reflect solar energy and focus it on an energy receiver consisting of photovoltaic cells.
