Jennie to demonstrate wireless near video over IEEE802.15.4 29.08.2008

Jennie Ltd. continues to use the IEEE802.15.4 open radio standard, demonstrating "near video" wireless transmission.

The first public demonstration will take place at the Wireless Exhibition at the Big Sight International Exhibition Center in Tokyo. The demo will show the transmission of video from the camera to the screen at a rate of several frames per second over an IEEE802.15.4 wireless link. The low power consumption of this standard makes this technology particularly suitable for applications that require long battery life in combination with intermittent video transmission.

Commercial applications of this technology include wireless peephole cameras, security cameras, home monitoring products, games, and advanced remote control solutions. The technology uses a commercially available image encoding chip together with Jennie's JN5139 single-chip wireless microcontroller, resulting in low cost and low power consumption.

Jennie Japan Office Regional Manager Toshi Sato commented, "IEEE802.15.4 is a global standard that coexists with other IEEE radio standards that are widely used around the world, but unlike other standards, IEEE802.15.4 has a flexible scope, allowing developers to use wireless connections in a wide range of new products.

Other radio standards are mainly designed for specific applications such as access points or wireless headsets, where the standard defines all functionality. This is not very convenient for non-standard applications, which, along with low power consumption, is an advantage of the 1EEE802.15.4 standard.
