Who is the Caesar salad named after?

Caesar salad has nothing to do with Julius Caesar. It is named after Italian-born American chef Caesar Cardini, who invented the recipe.

According to legend, Cardini made a salad from what was left in the kitchen of his restaurant when, during the celebration of US Independence Day, there was nothing left from the menu, and customers demanded food.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What do people say when they sneeze?

In England, if a person sneezes, they will say: "God bless you!" At the same time, the Germans and Russians wish good health, the Italians - happiness, while in the Near and Middle East they clap their hands and bow in the direction of the sneezed. One explanation for these traditions has to do with superstition. This custom arose because ancient man believed that the soul exists in the form of air or breath, which is contained in the head. When sneezing, the soul could fly out for a while, and perhaps forever, until it meets God. "God bless you!" - an appeal to God so that the soul does not fly out. A bow towards the sneezer also means: "May your soul not fly out."

But there are experts who believe that the tradition of saying: "God bless you!" sneezing is not based on superstition. They believe that she appeared during the plague that happened in Athens. Sneezing was the first sign that a person was ill. The Romans developed the habit of referring to God when sneezing and passed it on to the British. And when there was a plague in Britain, people said, "God bless you!" for the same reason that this expression was used in Athens - to ask God to bless a person so that he does not die.

There are many other superstitions associated with sneezing. Some, for example, are sure that, depending on what day you sneeze, you can predict the near future.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Mobile phones with 3-megapixel cameras will appear this year 22.06.2004

Three Korean mobile phone makers - Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Pantech Group - are preparing to introduce handsets with 3-megapixel cameras as early as this year, the Korea Times reported, citing industry sources.

If that happens, then the resolution of phone cameras will triple a year after Samsung and Pantech released megapixel copies. Samsung is first going to catch up with its rival LG and release an intermediate version with a resolution of 2 megapixels, as well as a built-in MP3 player.

LG Electronics has already released the LG-SD330 with such a camera, and is preparing to introduce a 3-megapixel camera phone this summer. Pantech is about the same level as Samsung. Currently, commercially available camera phones have a resolution of 300 pixels, which is incomparable to the quality of even the simplest digital cameras.

The three-millionth milestone of matrices will make a separate digital camera useless, and this will greatly undermine the market for the latter, primarily cameras of the lower and middle class.
