Why is a mirror considered dangerous?

The mirror doubles reality and, according to Slavic mythology, serves as a boundary between the earthly and other worlds. If in the house where the dead person lies, the mirror is not turned to face the wall, the dead person will become a vampire and will invade the world of the living.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

How are flies born?

Everyone knows that flies are carriers of infection. The fly is born and spends most of its life near garbage and other places favorable for the development of bacteria. In fact, this damp, decaying matter is the most optimal breeding ground for flies. Here the female lays white eggs (about 1,2 mm in size), from which thin, worm-like, legless larvae emerge. This is the "feeding" stage of the fly's life. Five or six days later, the skin of the larva thickens and turns brownish and the fly's life enters a resting stage: the larva becomes a chrysalis.

After another 5-6 days, an adult fly appears from the pupa shell. The size of this fly does not change in the future: large flies do not grow out of small ones. Another 10 days later, the fly mates, and a little later the female lays 100 to 150 eggs! Not all types of flies breed like houseflies.

Some hatch eggs in themselves and give birth to live larvae, and some species lay eggs that are already in the pupal stage. Due to the fact that flies carry diseases, a person is constantly fighting them. It is best to kill flies in winter or early spring. During this cold season, the flies hide in dark, warm corners and are very hungry all the time, so they are easy to catch and kill.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Muse Technologies for Thought Control 17.08.2013

InteraXon, a start-up company working on a thought-computer control interface, has raised its first major investment of $6 million by giving investors a stake in preferred stock.

Chief Executive Ariel Garten announced the deal yesterday at the GROW startup conference in Vancouver. She also demonstrated the company's product - a comfortable and neat six-sensor Muse headband that replaces the traditional encephalogram device.

"Muse is a rim that is sensitive to the biocurrents of the brain, allowing you to track its cognitive and emotional activity. It increases your attention and helps you better understand the emotions you are experiencing," Ms. Garten said.

InteraXon started with a successful Indiegogo campaign that raised $287 to launch the first series of devices. The public attention the project has generated has been an important investment case for Horizons Ventures, OMERS Ventures, ff Venture Capital, Felicis Ventures, Bridge Builders Collaborative, and A-Grade Investments, an investment company founded this year by actor Ashton Kutcher. ), who played the role of Steve Jobs.

The funds raised will be used to improve algorithms and release more devices on the market. The Muse device allows you to control the computer and games, reduce stress, improve memory and concentration, - the company says - ultimately this computer-brain interface will allow you to mentally control the surrounding devices.

The company says that Muse with bundled iOS and Android mental exercise software and SDK will begin shipping in late 2013. The cost of the device is not very high and even now it is $200.

It is hoped that InteraXon technology will appear in future devices such as Google Glass digital glasses and Oculus Rift virtual reality glasses, and will expand the scope of wearable computing with a simple and always accessible control tool.
