Why was the horse stripped of honors?

The Egyptians revered over a hundred representatives of the fauna. One of the most revered was the scarab, which deftly rolled balls of dung. Why such mercy to the dung beetle? According to the priests, the rolling of balls by scarabs symbolized the movement of the sun across the sky.

The god of royal power and war Horus was depicted in the form of a falcon, the god of the kingdom of the dead Anubis had the appearance of a jackal, and the ibis personified the god of wisdom Thoth.

Worship of animals sometimes reached the point of absurdity. Luxurious temples were built in honor of cats, where they had their own priests and admirers. Dead cats were buried in special cemeteries. They were embalmed, wrapped in expensive linen. If the cat died, then all family members shaved off their eyebrows as a sign of deep mourning. A person who deliberately or even accidentally killed a sacred animal faced the death penalty. Cats, snakes, jackals, ibises, peacocks, sheep, crocodiles, oxen, donkeys - everyone found a place in the Egyptian pantheon!

So how did it happen that the horse, which was so honored by the Slavs and Scythians, the ancient Indians and Greeks, was left without attention in Egypt? Everything is explained simply. Horses came to Egypt only in the middle of the second millennium BC - they were brought with them by the Hyksos conquerors. The Egyptians did not want to deify horses, because by that time the pantheon of gods had already developed.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Efficient installation for energy storage in compressed air 04.10.2022

Compressed air energy storage systems are nothing new. The problem was their relatively low energy efficiency, which Chinese scientists successfully solved. Based on the development in Hebei Province, the world's most advanced 100 MW air-compression energy storage system has been created, tested and will be put into commercial operation by the end of the year.

The world's first CAES (compressed air energy storage system) project on a utility scale was implemented in Germany in 1978. The plant is still in operation today, providing an output power of 290 MW. CAES equipment pumps atmospheric air into voids in the ground, compressing the air to a pressure of about 140 atmospheres. The efficiency of the German installation is 40%, which is significantly lower than pumped storage power plants with energy reserves in the process of pumping water masses to a great height (efficiency up to 75%) and battery storage, the efficiency of which reaches 90%, but is realized in the course of the most serious financial injections.

In the process of compressing air, a CAES unit releases a lot of heat energy. The German project does not use this heat, and when releasing compressed air, it uses fossil fuel combustion to heat it, which in combination greatly reduces the efficiency of the solution (additional heating greatly increases the pressure of the outgoing air flow and enhances the work it does - the rotation of generator turbines).

Chinese engineers have learned how to capture and efficiently store the heat generated in the process of air compression and then reuse it to heat the air supplied to the turbines. According to the test results, the heat storage efficiency is maintained at 98,95% after eight hours and 98,73% after 16 hours, which is the highest among existing CAES heat storage devices.

In parallel, other projects are being implemented in China on systems for collecting energy from renewable and therefore unstable energy sources, such as the sun and wind. For example, a 100 MW storage system based on vanadium flow batteries is being built in Dalian, and energy storage projects have been launched in Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and other regions, both in conventional lithium batteries and in more exotic options, such as using flywheels. China is striving to become a leader in energy storage and is testing all possible options to achieve its goals.
