Which country lies between the Tigris and Euphrates?

In our time, Iraq is located mainly in the interfluve of the Tigris and Euphrates, on the territory of the most ancient class states on Earth: Sumer, Babylonia, Assyria and others. In the II-I millennia, Assyria turned into a huge slave-owning power, which included the lands of Syria, Palestine, Mesopotamia, Transcaucasia and even Egypt.

Since ancient times, the valleys along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers have been famous for their fertility, perhaps that is why one of the oldest centers of civilization arose here. And today, the largest cities and the whole life of the country are concentrated on the Mesopotamian lowland.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Why does the appearance of the starry sky change throughout the year?

At different times of the year, different constellations can be observed in the evenings. Why is this happening?

The sun, as observations show, not only moves along with all the stars during the day, rising in the east and setting in the west, but also slowly moves among the stars in the opposite direction, i.e. from west to east, moving from constellation to constellation . We cannot observe the constellation in which the Sun is currently located, since it rises with the Sun and moves across the sky during the day, when the stars are not visible. The path along which the Sun moves among the stars throughout the year is called the ecliptic. It passes through twelve so-called zodiac constellations, each of which the Sun visits for approximately one month each year.

The annual motion of the Sun among the stars is apparent. In fact, the observer himself moves along with the Earth around the Sun, which is why it seems that the Sun moves from one constellation to another.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Shadow in the car where needed 21.03.2023

Korean engineers have invented a way to distribute shadow spots throughout the interior of the vehicle, as passengers need. This will bring natural light into the interior of the Hyundai Ioniq 6.

The system uses cameras and interior light intensity sensors. The task of the camera is to determine the position and movement of passengers, and the light intensity sensors determine how much light is available in different areas of the cabin.

Together with the camera system, there are external sensors mounted on the roof to detect the intensity of incoming natural light as well as its orientation relative to the car.

Let's assume that the available natural light will make the cabin lighter than desired. In this case, the smart lock blocks are automatically dimmed to reduce

The control unit also detects lighting around passengers and can dim some areas on the roof to keep residents cool in the shade. When operated with a roof-mounted light sensor and interior camera, the system will also move shaded areas above the vehicle's occupants to ensure they are not exposed to direct sunlight, regardless of the vehicle's direction of travel.

The key technology is electrochromic glass inserts in the sunroof panels, which can change their opacity and/or color in response to the application of electrical voltage. This is not a new technology, but its application here is unique. This innovation relies primarily on available technology, so there are no major barriers to seeing it in production models from Kia or Hyundai anytime soon.
