What was James Bond's favorite drink?

Not vodka with martini at all.

An in-depth study of Ian Fleming's legacy at www.atomicmartinis.com found that 007 averaged one drink for every seven pages.

Of the 317 drinks consumed, Bond's favorite was, without a doubt, whiskey: James drinks whiskey 101 times, of which 58 bourbons and 38 scotch. Bond, by the way, is not averse to indulging in champagne (thirty glasses), and in one of the books, You Only Live Twice (1964), where the action mainly takes place in Japan, he even tries sake. Which, I must say, is to the taste of the agent: James is applied to the sake thirty-five times.

The vodka + martini cocktail, which is considered to be Bond's favorite drink, 007 chooses only nineteen times - and about the same number of times (sixteen) Bond is mixed martini with gin (however, most of these cocktails are treated to him by others).

The famous phrase "shaken but not mixed" first appears in Diamonds Are Forever (1956), but is not used by Bond himself until Dr. No (1959). The first on-screen Bond to say "shake but not mix" was Sean Connery in Goldfinger (1964), after which the phrase has appeared in almost every film. In 2005, the National Film Institute overwhelmingly ranked her as the 90th greatest movie quote of all time.

James Bond's personal recipe, devised in his first book, Casino Royale (1953), is: "Three parts Gordon, one vodka, and half a Keena Lillet. Shake well, chill to ice, and add a long , a thin spiral of lemon peel".

This is the only time Bond mixes gin with vodka. He names his cocktail Vesper, after Vesper Lind, a double agent and his love interest in the novel. By the way, of all the Bond girls, Vesper is the record holder for drinking alcohol.

Why is Bond so insistent on "shaken" martinis? Strictly speaking, shaken in a shaker gin + dry vermouth is called "Bradford". Purists will, of course, wrinkle their noses, as the influx of air caused by churning oxidizes—or, as connoisseurs say, "destroys"—the aroma of gin. However, this problem does not exist with vodka: on the contrary, shaking makes the cocktail colder and stronger.

Fleming himself preferred martinis precisely shaken and with gin. In a later period of his life, the writer, on the advice of doctors, switched to bourbon, which, in general, explains the addiction of the author's favorite hero. Fleming and Bond - these two knew a lot about life.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What is a tsunami?

Tsunamis are sea waves of very large length, arising mainly as a result of the up and down shift of extended sections of the seabed during underwater and coastal earthquakes.

The distance between neighboring wave crests during a tsunami can be from 5 to 1500 kilometers, the waves propagate at a speed of 50 to 1000 kilometers per hour. The height of the waves in the area of their occurrence ranges from 10 centimeters to 5 meters, but near the coast it can reach from 10 to 50 meters or more.

One of the most destructive tsunamis took place in 2004. Originating in the Indian Ocean, it hit the coasts of Indonesia and Sri Lanka in gigantic waves, claiming more than 300 human lives.

There is a known case in 1994, when the tsunami was caused by the collapse of a dock in the sea in the American port of Skagway (Alaska). Then the wave height reached 11 meters, one person died.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Men get the flu more than women 08.01.2018

Scientists at Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada studied scientific papers on the epidemiology of viral respiratory diseases, including influenza, and stated that men are more difficult than women to survive seasonal colds.

In English there is an expression "male flu", which the Oxford and Cambridge dictionaries define as "a cold or similar mild ailment experienced by a man who exaggerates the severity of symptoms." If everyone believes that men exaggerate the severity of their condition, then their complaints may be paid less attention; because of this, men may receive insufficient treatment. According to statistics, more men die from respiratory diseases than women.

Scientific studies have shown that the immune response of female mice to infectious respiratory diseases is stronger than the immune response of males. These data led to the hypothesis that female sex hormones enhance the immune response. This assumption was confirmed by other studies, the authors of which showed that the female hormone estradiol weakens the pathological immune response, but increases the influx of immune cells into the lungs.

Scientists pay attention to publications proving that women tolerate certain types of flu shots easier than men. What evolutionary mechanisms are behind the different resistance of men and women to influenza is not known, in addition, most of the experiments were carried out on mice, not on humans, and human studies often did not take into account factors that affect the state of the immune system, such as smoking, and willingness to seek medical attention.
