Who lives in an igloo?

The Inuit word igloo (igloo or iglu) means "house". Most igloos are made from snow or animal skins.

Snow block igloos were part of the Thule culture - the forerunners of the Inuit - and were used in central and eastern Canada until relatively recently.

However, snow igloos are built exclusively by Canadian Eskimos. In Alaska, they are completely unknown, and out of 14 Eskimos living in Greenland (according to the census of the 000s), only 1920 saw the "snow hut" with their own eyes.

The first igloos ever seen by Europeans caught the eye of Martin Frobisher on Baffin Island in 1576, on an expedition in search of the Northwest Passage. At the same time, one of the Eskimos wounded the great traveler in the ass. In retaliation, Frobisher's men killed several Inuit, and one was captured alive and brought to London, where the poor fellow was put on display to the public, like an outlandish animal.

In the 1920s, a newspaper in Denver, Colorado, erected a snow igloo near the municipal buildings where reindeer were kept and hired an Alaskan Eskimo to explain to visitors that he and all the other Alaskan reindeer herders lived in such houses. when they arrive in their home country. Preparations for testing the "flying car" developed by the American inventor Paul Moller are nearing completion.

The new car, called the Skycar M400, has 8 rotary piston engines with a total power of 1000 hp. They drive 4 propellers rotating at 100 rpm. Like some planes, the Skycar has two fin-linked fins, but no wings at all.
