What is skin?

Skin is the skin of an animal. Usually these are the skins of cows, horses, goats and pigs.

Cattle skins are the main source of leather raw materials. Calfskin is thinner, softer and lighter, which is why the most expensive shoes and bags are made from it. The skin of goats, both young and old, is called kid skin. Most suede leathers are kid skins, sanded on the side that was in direct proximity to soft tissues. Horse skins are used to make shoes, jackets and sports equipment.

Kangaroo skins are the most durable skins. They are used to make track and field and baseball shoes. Crocodile skin is used to make shoes, handbags, wallets and travel bags. Even the skins of snakes and lizards are used for the same purposes. Tanning makes animal skin soft and supple. Tannin, which is found in oak bark and is used in the tanning of hides, causes a chemical reaction. If some amendments are made to these chemical processes, then different types of leather are obtained.

Before tanning, the skin must be treated in a special way, "preserved". This is done in canneries where they are salted to keep them from rotting. After tanning, the leathers are treated with resins, shellac, and other chemicals that make them shiny. Dyes are added for color. Shiny leather surface becomes after coating it with varnish. Suede leather becomes if its surface is sanded or treated with sandpaper so that hairiness appears.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

US Cyber Troops Grow 16.01.2014

The US authorities in 2014 will spend $447 million on the needs of the Cyber Command of the Department of Defense, which is 2,3 times more than $191 million spent in 2013.

The new Cyber Command budget was reported by Nextgov, citing official documents published by the U.S. Budgetary Appropriations Commission.

As the Ministry of Defense explained to Nextgov, the increase in cyber command spending is mainly due to an increase in the staff of the unit. As of March 2013, it included about 830 employees. According to the program adopted by the authorities, by 2016 the staff of the cyber unit is planned to be increased by 2 employees annually.

US cyber troops are engaged in identifying and blocking threats from foreign countries affecting military and industrial computer networks. Among their tasks is protection from hacker attacks of the municipal and social infrastructures of the state.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, in 2012 the number of reports of cyberattacks on US computer networks rose to about 153, or 2011% more than in 42.

At the same time, US spending on cyber defense within the budget of the Department of Homeland Security will increase. $2014 million will be allocated under this item in 792, which is $35,5 million more than in 2013.

Thus, the Pentagon and the US Department of Homeland Security will spend a total of more than $2014 billion on cyber attacks and cyber defense in 1,2, or about 30% more than $948 million in 2013. However, both departmental budgets still need Senate approval.
