Who created the first plane?

Although attempts to create aircraft heavier than air have been made since time immemorial, the first of them, equipped with a motor, took to the skies in 1903, that is, during the reign of the Zeppelins.

The first real aircraft - the Flyer, the great-great-grandfather of the current aircraft - was designed by the Americans, the brothers Wilber and Orville Wright. An engine of 30 horsepower allowed the aircraft to accelerate to a speed of 71 kilometers per hour.

The design of the aircraft made it possible not only to take to the air, but also to control the aircraft. The range of the first flights was only a few tens of meters, but their significance can hardly be overestimated.

When did the world find itself on the brink of a nuclear war due to technical errors?

During the Cold War, there were many cases when the world was on the verge of a nuclear war due to incorrect readings of missile launch detection systems. For example, in 1979, an alarm was raised in the United States due to the fact that a training program for a massive nuclear strike was mistakenly loaded on one of the computers. However, the satellites did not detect missile launches, and the alarm was cancelled. And in 1983, the Soviet satellite detection system failed, transmitting a signal about the launch of several American missiles. Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov, sitting on the console, took it upon himself to not pass information on to the country's top leadership, deciding that the United States was unlikely to launch a first strike with such a small force. In 2006, the UN awarded Petrov as "the man who prevented a nuclear war."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Wiring increases 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi coverage 08.03.2014

TP-Link announced the start of deliveries of TL-WPA4220KIT kits. With their help, you can increase the coverage of the 802.11b / g / n Wi-Fi network through the use of electrical wiring. The kit includes two Powerline adapters: TL-PA4010 and TL-WPA4220. The first is used to connect an existing router to the power grid to communicate with the second at speeds up to 500 Mbps. The second acts as a router with support for Wi-Fi (speed up to 300 Mbps) and two Ethernet ports.

The communication range between the adapters is up to 300 m, which makes it possible to connect different floors of a residential building or office to the network.

Connection is simplified by the presence of Pair and Wi-Fi Clone buttons. Clicking on the first one automatically establishes a connection between adapters protected by AES encryption with a 128-bit key, and clicking on the second one clones the Wi-Fi router settings. If you move the kit components to another location, you do not need to reconfigure them.

The adapters comply with the HomePlug AV, IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u, and IEEE802.11b/g/n specifications.
The set costs $60.
