Why different countries do not have the same money?

To begin with, it must be said that it is difficult to define money. The London banker and the leader of an abandoned African tribe have different attitudes towards the issue of money. Money is not metal coins or printed bills. These are not British pounds sterling, not French francs, not Italian liras, not Spanish pesetas, not Russian roubles. Why?

Because they are all used as money, but at the same time, on one of the Pacific Islands, stones are still considered money. In short, all these things are only symbols. But they represent something real. The easiest way to define what money is is to agree on what will be the most convenient medium of exchange and what will be the measure of the value of goods and labor.

When a person wants something, he can exchange money in the form in which he has it for the desired thing. He can also get certain services for money. In the course of history, money has undergone great changes. An early form of money was cattle. Later, grain and salt came into use as money. At an early stage in the development of society, various objects and products were used instead of money.

Later, coins were minted, and then, about three centuries ago, printed paper money began to be used. As these more modern forms of money emerged, governments began to control the form of money and its value. Each country had its own monetary form. This continues to this day. We just haven't reached that level of civilization yet where all the people in the world, no matter where they live, could use the same money.

Which writer was given a year of paid leave by her friends to make her literary debut?

Harper Lee was about thirty years old when she decided to seriously engage in literary activities and wrote several stories. However, she could only write in her free time from office work. At Christmas, Lee received an unexpected gift from two friends in the form of a paid annual leave in order to realize any of her plans. During that year, a draft of To Kill a Mockingbird was written, and after another three years of Lee's work with the editor, it was published and became a bestseller.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Created the strongest acid 18.07.2005

At the University of California (USA), with the participation of employees of the Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk), an acid has been created that is a million times stronger than concentrated sulfuric acid. The paradox is that the new acid is not at all aggressive towards materials.

The compound, called carboranoic acid, is the first "super acid" that can be stored in glass bottles. This softness of the new acid is due to its unusually high chemical stability.

Like all acids, the new substance interacts with other compounds, giving them a positively charged hydrogen ion. However, the remaining negatively charged anion is so stable that it does not react further. But it is this secondary reaction that is very significant in corrosion. For example, hydrofluoric acid attacks glass, which is mostly silica, by reacting its negatively charged fluorine ion with silicon and its hydrogen ion with oxygen.

The new acid - its formula H(CHB|1C111) - is an excellent hydrogen ion (proton) donor, which determines the "strength" of the acid. There are much more of these ions in its solution than in sulfuric or nitric acid. However, the carborane part of the acid, which remains after the departure of the hydrogen ion, contains a group of 11 carbon atoms that form the spatial structure of an icosahedron (twenty-sided).

Such a structure is the most stable of the groups of atoms existing in chemistry, which explains the corrosion inertness of the acid.
