What is a cloud?

This chapter is about how clouds form. Warm air filled with moisture rises into the sky. When it reaches a certain height, it cools down. At a lower temperature, it can no longer contain all of the moisture in the form of water vapor. Therefore, excess moisture is converted into small droplets of water, ice crystals, which make up a cloud or a cloud. There are no two exactly alike clouds, especially since they are constantly changing their shape.

Clouds have different shapes because they form at different heights and at different temperatures. After the water vapor turns into a liquid (this process is called condensation), it comes into contact with dust and other air particles. The smallest drop of water forms around each such tiny particle, which is brought by the wind from deserts, dry highlands and volcanoes. These are small crystals of salt from the oceans, tiny pieces of ash from burnt coal and much more.

It takes about 100 tiny droplets to form one raindrop. And to form a cloud, you need millions and millions of these droplets. Such a cloud measuring a kilometer wide, a kilometer long and a kilometer high could contain about 000 tons of water in the form of droplets and almost 000 tons of water in the form of vapor.

Virgin Galactic supersonic aircraft 09.08.2020

Virgin Galactic has unveiled a design for a proposed supersonic jet aircraft that features high flight speeds. The company claims that the final version of the aircraft can carry between 9 and 19 passengers and reach speeds of Mach 3 (about 3700 km/h).

The core business of Virgin Galactic is the space tourism business. The company intends to launch tourists into the Earth's orbit who will agree to pay a lot of money ($250) for a short stay in microgravity and the opportunity to look at the Earth from a great height. The company recently revealed the interior of its travel spacecraft.

However, for many years Virgin Galactic has also expressed interest in using its space technology to develop high-speed travel. The idea is to use sub-orbital rockets to move people from one point on Earth to another in much less time than in a conventional plane. But recently there has been talk of using not suborbital rockets for these purposes, but supersonic aircraft.

In May of this year, Virgin Galactic announced that it had received some help from NASA in the development of supersonic aircraft. The space agency has many years of experience in developing supersonic vehicle technology. The company now says that thanks to NASA's help, the supersonic aircraft design process has passed the mission proof-of-concept phase. This means that "the design concept can meet the requirements and objectives of the high-level mission." And the company has shared renders and some details of such a proposed aircraft.

As planned, the aircraft will be able to fly at an altitude of 60 thousand feet (about 18,3 km). The company also says that it "will help pave the way for the use of modern environmentally friendly aviation fuel." The aircraft cabin is designed for business class and first class seats. The possibility of implementing individual interior plans is also conceived.
