Which country produces the most watches?

At the first time, when mechanical clocks were invented, there were no countries that would lead in the production of table and wrist watches. Skilled workers moved from country to country, and watchmaking became an international profession. But soon different countries began to specialize in different types of watches. For example, England has long been famous for its ship's chronometers - large accurate clocks mounted in special brackets that hold them in a horizontal position when rolling.

England also specializes in striking clocks. It exports a significant number of movements of such watches, and watch manufacturers around the world insert them into the case. Germany supplies the world with carved wood cuckoo clocks. Their mechanism is not of the highest quality, but the wood carving is very beautiful. Some jeweled watches are also produced here.

Watchmaking in Switzerland is a national industry, very important for the economy of the whole country. Switzerland became a leader in watchmaking at the end of the XNUMXth century with the advent of wristwatches. The Swiss are experts in the production of high quality small mechanical watches. Alarm clocks, calendar watches, automatic watches and chronometers are made almost exclusively in Switzerland.

Most of the American watch industry is engaged in the production of electric clocks, car clocks and inexpensive alarm clocks. America imports from Switzerland, Germany, Japan and France watch components (clock movements, watch cases, spare parts) and assemble watches at its enterprises.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

How do spiders travel great distances through the air?

Spiders, especially young light individuals, are capable of ballooning. Having gone out into the open area, the spider lifts its abdomen up and releases several threads, from which it usually makes a web. But in this case, the threads form a semblance of a parachute and allow the spider to glide in the air currents. Usually the range of such a journey does not exceed a few meters, but sometimes spiders can be carried very far, which allowed them to colonize any corner of the land on the planet and the most remote islands.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Destruction of memory chips on command 02.10.2014

This year, manufacturers of a wide variety of electronics have decided that it has become much more important for users to keep their data safe. Several specially protected from "hacker attacks" smartphones have seen the light, more and more USB drives with hardware encryption are appearing.

Secure Drives has gone even further. Her Autothysis128 SSD can physically destroy its memory and controller. What's more, the drive is equipped with a GSM modem and the user can kill and destroy data via a regular message (SMS).

There are other options. In particular, you can configure the drive destruction mode if you try to dismantle it from the PC case, the laptop battery is low, or several incorrect password entries are made. You can also issue a direct command using the special Token module that comes with the Autothysis128t modification (the Autothysis128s modification lacks it).

From a technical point of view, the drives are nothing special. The capacity is 128 GB. The read speed is 127MB/s, the write speed is 120MB/s. Performance reaches 20 IOPS. Of course, AES encryption with a 000-bit key is supported. For connection, SATA 256 Gb / s or Micro USB interfaces are used.

The dimensions of the drive are 100,5 x 70 x 9,5 mm with a weight of 88 g. The cost of solutions is $1550 for the Autothysis128s model and $1650 for the Autothysis128t model. The cost of a subscription to the mobile service is $47 per year (the first year is included in the price).
