How did people sew in ancient times?

Sewing is the fastening of one piece of fabric to another with a needle and thread. Now it seems so simple that it is hard to imagine that it was one of the first skills developed by man. It really is. Before the invention of the needle, cloth was simply wrapped around the body to form clothing. But as civilization progressed, man needed to sew fabrics together; thus needles have existed since ancient times. The found ancient needles were made from the bones of birds and fish, as well as from bronze.

In ancient Egypt, people not only used needles and threads, but also knew how to embroider. And more than three thousand years ago, the Hindus already knew how to cut, fit and sew what we call tailor-made clothes. In the Middle Ages, clothing was very simple. It was made by the mistress of the house and her servants.

Later, when things became more shaped, it was necessary to make more seams, and stronger ones, because the clothes fit more tightly to the body. Sewn, of course, only by hand. Little girls learned to sew from early childhood and it was believed that every young woman should be good at sewing.

Who gave the name to the city of Los Angeles?

Los Angeles is the third largest city in the United States and the largest in area - 454,90 square meters. miles. When it was founded, who would have thought that it would become such a big city as it is now. The first white settlers in this place were Captain Gaspar de Portola, Spanish explorers and missionaries. On August 2, 1769, they camped on a river that bore the name "El Rio de Noistra Señora la Reina de Los Angeles de Porcencula" (River of the Great Lady, Queen of the Angels Porcencula).

Two years later, 14 kilometers north of the camp, the French formed the settlement of San Gabriel. And in 1781, Los Angeles was formally founded by the Spanish governor of California, Felipe de Neve. With the help of priests from San Gabriel, Governor de Neve organized a settlement of 11 men, 11 women and 22 children, called this settlement El Pueblo de Noistra Señora la Reina de Los Angeles (City of the Great Lady, Queen of the Angels).

The city was not large, but when in 1848, after the war with Mexico, California became part of the United States, its population increased to 1500 inhabitants. Farms sprang up around the city, growing oranges, grapefruits, lemons, walnuts, avocados, and grapes. In 1876, the Southern Pacific Railroad reached Los Angeles. In 1890, oil was discovered in this area, and the city began to grow rapidly.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Intel Xeon D-2100 Processors 07.02.2018

Intel introduced the Intel Xeon D-2100 system-on-a-chip processor, designed to meet the needs of edge devices, as well as data centers and network applications with limited space and power consumption.

The Intel Xeon Processor D-2100 further enhances record-breaking efficiency and extends the innovative capabilities of the Intel Xeon Scalable platform from the data center to the network edge and web application layer, where network operators and cloud service providers face the need to continuously increase performance without increasing consumption. electricity.

The novelty will provide higher performance and hardware-based edge protection technologies needed to meet the growing demand for increased computing power, more processing capabilities and data protection closer to the end devices. For example, it will help communication service providers (CoSPs) implement multiple access edge computing (MEC), which will allow software applications to access local content and real-time information about local access network conditions, reducing congestion, preventing mobile network congestion and opening new applications of the technology in cars with 5G connectivity, smart stadiums, retail and healthcare.

The new processors will also enable telecom service providers to deliver network services with higher bandwidth, optimized workload and lower power consumption to customer equipment using virtualization (vCPE), such as virtual private networks and encryption services.

The Intel Xeon D-2100 processors include up to 18 "Skylake-server" generation Intel Xeon cores, as well as integrated Intel QuickAssist technology that supports cryptographic functions, encryption and decryption at speeds up to 100 Gb/s. In addition to these data protection enhancements, the new product will be supported by system software updates to protect consumers from vulnerabilities such as Specter and Meltdown.
