How does a new flower grow? Detailed answer Directory / Big encyclopedia. Questions for quiz and self-education Did you know? How does a new flower grow? Every living organism reproduces itself. In flowers, this process occurs like this. Each flower has four main parts. First of all, it is usually a green outer calyx, consisting of sepals. The petals are inside the sepals. Inside the petals are the seed-forming organs. In the center of the flower is one or more pistils. Stamens are located around the pistil. The pistil is the female part of the flower. The lower, wide part of it is called the "ovary". Inside the ovary are round ovules from which seeds develop. But they become seeds only after being fertilized by pollen grains. Pollen grains develop in the stamens - the male organs of the flower. In order to form a seed, pollen grains must pass through the top of the pistil and enter the ovules. The top part of the pistil is called the stigma. Pollen grains first fall on the stigma. They absorb the moisture of the sweet liquid on the surface of the stigma. Then they swell and grow. A speck of dust grows into the tube. The tube grows through the style of the pistil and through the wall of the ovary enters the ovule. The contents of the tube enter the ovule and fertilize it. Many pollen tubes can germinate into the ovary at the same time. Each tube will intrude and pollinate one ovule. Only pollen from the same plant will grow into the tube and reach the ovule. The part of the stamen that produces pollen is called the anther. The transfer of pollen from the anther to the stigma is called pollination. If pollination occurs in one flower, it is called self-pollination. If the pollen passes to the flower of another plant, then the pollination is called cross-pollination. Cross-pollination is carried out by means of wind, insects, birds and certain animals. Later, the seeds are also transferred to another place, where they take root and grow into flowers. Author: Likum A. Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia: How do spiders travel great distances through the air? Spiders, especially young light individuals, are capable of ballooning. Having gone out into the open area, the spider lifts its abdomen up and releases several threads, from which it usually makes a web. But in this case, the threads form a semblance of a parachute and allow the spider to glide in the air currents. Usually the range of such a journey does not exceed a few meters, but sometimes spiders can be carried very far, which allowed them to colonize any corner of the land on the planet and the most remote islands.
