When did the first university appear?

In the Middle Ages, a university was any community or group organized to protect common interests. Therefore, the first educational universities were just communities of teachers and students created for their protection. They did not have permanent buildings. Teachers and students simply rented a hall or other large space.

Over time, these communities grew, buildings were built, they achieved certain rights and privileges, and the universities became permanent. The first such university appeared in Salerno, in Italy. From about the 1231th century, it became widely known as a medical school. Officially, this institution was recognized as a university in XNUMX.

By the end of the XNUMXth century, a multidisciplinary university appeared in Bologna, Italy. Here they studied law, medicine, arts and theology. The most famous of the medieval institutions of higher education was the University of Paris, officially founded in the second half of the XNUMXth century. It became a model for all the universities that subsequently appeared in Europe. The two oldest English universities were organized along the lines of the Parisian.

Oxford and Cambridge were officially recognized in the 1636th century. The university, as we know, consists of many colleges or faculties, which makes it possible to receive education in various specialties at the university. Many educational institutions started as colleges and then became universities. The first college in the United States was Harvard, founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts in XNUMX. Today it is a major university.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Screen with inflatable zones 03.05.2023

Scientists from Carnegie Mellon University showed the technology of Flat Panel Haptics. It allows you to inflate certain areas of the screen thanks to miniature pumps built under the display.

For the technology to work, it must be used in conjunction with OLED displays. During operation, certain areas of the screen will inflate, eventually protruding by about 1,5 millimeters. At the moment, only a limited set of keys can be inflated, and it takes about a second to assume a convex shape.

The technology will allow simulating interaction with a physical keyboard on touch screens, and will also help visually impaired and blind people control such equipment.
