Did you know?

Who are vertebrates?

What do you think: is there anything that unites a sparrow, a shark, a python, a frog, a dog and a person? You are right if you answered this question in the affirmative, because there is such a common feature for all the above creatures. It lies in the fact that they all have a spine.

The spine is not a whole bone, but an elongated chain of small bones connected in series - the vertebrae. The presence or absence of it turns out to be such an important circumstance that all animals with a spine are distinguished by scientists as a special type of vertebrates. All other animals - molluscs, insects, worms and others - are non-vertebrates.

In true vertebrates, a skull, similar to an empty box of bone, is attached to one end of the spine. It contains the brain of an animal. To him along the spinal column stretch thick bundles of nerves, hidden in the recesses on the vertebrae. These bundles form the spinal cord. Thinner nerves join the spinal cord from all sides, the endings of which are present in every part of the vertebrate body.

Another characteristic feature of vertebrates is the presence of a circulatory system, that is, interconnected blood vessels through which blood carries nutrients and oxygen, reaching every cell of the body. Small vessels, merging, form larger ones - veins and arteries, the main of which stretch to the center of the circulatory system - the heart. Vertebrates differ from other animals in their well-developed musculoskeletal system, which, in addition to the skeleton, consists of muscles and tendons. The ribs and bones that hold the limbs are attached to the spinal column.

The number of limbs in a vertebrate never exceeds four, and in some animals, such as snakes, they are completely absent. These limbs may have a different appearance. In birds, one pair of limbs has evolved into wings in the process of evolution, while in humans, one pair has become hands and the other has become legs.

Typical representatives of vertebrates are owners of tails. However, just as some of them lost their limbs as they developed, so did man in the early stages of his existence lose his tail.

Who inspired the Mexicans to organize a costume parade during the Day of the Dead?

The celebration of the Day of the Dead in Mexico goes back centuries to Native American customs. It primarily includes visits to cemeteries, and only since 2016 has a costumed parade been held in Mexico City. The creators of the film "007: Spectrum" unwittingly became the inventors of this tradition, who came up with such a parade, and the city authorities took advantage of the idea to attract additional tourists.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New liquid cooling from Fujitsu 21.07.2015

Fujitsu has unveiled a new Cool-Central liquid cooling solution designed to cut server cooling costs by up to 50%. It complements the company's energy-saving server solutions for large-scale environments, including high-performance computing (HPC). According to the developers, the solution ensures compliance with the requirements or guidelines for efficient energy consumption.

Fujitsu Cool-Central for liquid cooling maximizes rack density and reduces cooling and power costs. In addition, capital investment for new liquid-cooled data centers is reduced compared to traditional air-cooled infrastructures. Moreover, the overall energy consumption can be further reduced by using secondary thermal resources in the form of water heated to 60 ° C to heat offices, homes and other premises, Fujitsu said.

The new Fujitsu Primergy CX400 M1 server and its liquid-cooled cluster nodes make efficient use of data center space by increasing equipment density to 160 Xeon processors and 1280 memory modules per standard rack. The total power consumption of such a rack exceeds 30 kW, so liquid cooling plays a vital role in maintaining an acceptable temperature regime in the data center, the company said. By 2016, Fujitsu predicts that high-density servers will surpass the 50kW/rack milestone, which is why the company is already implementing a modular, scalable technology that will be demanded by customers in the future.

"Fujitsu is revolutionizing data center design by providing a direct liquid cooling solution for chips that will help improve the efficiency of building and operating scale-out data centers," said Uwe Romppel, Head of Management Servers, Fujitsu "Achieving close to 1,0 PUEs is evidence of power optimization in the data center. The Fujitsu Cool-Central liquid cooling solution will help our customers achieve PUEs as low as 1,06 while making it easier to recycle heat."

Fujitsu has partnered with Danish company Asetek, a supplier of energy-efficient liquid cooling systems, to offer innovative direct-to-chip data center water cooling technology. The technology removes heat from "hot spots" such as CPUs, GPUs and memory modules to the outside air without the use of heat exchangers.
