Who drew the first cartoon?

Today we do not consider caricature as a phenomenon of great art. But once it was. During the Renaissance, a caricature was understood to mean the initial life-size sketch of a large work of art, such as a mural.

When newspapers and magazines began to use pictures to illustrate news and editorial opinion to amuse readers a little, they were also called cartoons. But until newspapers appeared, the artists Hogarth, Daumier and Rowlandson created series of pictures on the same topic. Sometimes such a series described the adventures of the hero. They were the founders of modern cartoons and comics.

Numerous cartoon magazines appeared in the 1900th and early 1902th centuries. In Paris, such a magazine was called "Kavardak", in London - "Punch", which can be translated as "Petrushka". And, perhaps, in these publications, the idea arose to regularly publish cartoons in all newspapers and magazines. The first page of humor appeared in the early XNUMXs. Richard Outcolt, the artist who created Brown's Booty, published it in XNUMX. It proved to be so popular that kids all over the country wanted to dress up in the style of Booty Brown.

Another early series of cartoons was titled "Papa's Education". It was created in 1912, translated into at least 30 languages and published in more than 70 countries. To keep the action moving forward and cover some of the most beloved comics, one publisher published a series of them in a book. The idea quickly spread, with dozens of comics re-edited each month.

Now comics are used for educational purposes. History, scientific problems, classic stories and novels are presented in the same form.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Wrist electronic gadgets are almost useless 28.05.2017

Doctors at Stanford University evaluated the effectiveness of popular fitness trackers.

The main conclusion of the work of scientists is that most fitness trackers reliably determine the heart rate, but are practically useless for calculating the energy spent on physical activity (usually expressed in kilocalories).

Experts came to such conclusions after analyzing the work of the seven most popular, according to the authors, wrist gadgets (Apple Watch, Basis Peak, Fitbit Surge, Microsoft Band, Mio Alpha 2, PulseOn and Samsung Gear S2).

A total of 60 volunteers participated in the study - 31 women and 29 men wore the devices while walking or exercising on a treadmill or exercise bike.

According to the authors, fitness trackers make mistakes in measuring calories burned due to incomplete data (height, weight, age, and other individual indicators), while a person's heart rate is always determined directly.
