Why do some people have nice voices?

Did you know that when you speak, you act like a musical virtuoso? You play the most difficult and complex musical instrument known to man. You learned this at an early age.

It is believed that the vocal cords are the only part of the instrument that reproduces our voice, and the control of the cords is of great importance. The sixteen most delicate muscles in our body control our vocal cords. They can take about 170 different positions! Moreover, only a certain amount of air entering the ligaments makes them vibrate in a strictly defined way.

If the vocal cords are stretched (tensed) so that they vibrate 80 times per second, then the vibration of the air, which we perceive as sound, has a low tone. And if they vibrate about 1000 times per second, then a high-pitched sound is heard. The height of our voice is determined by the length of our vocal cords.

The vocal apparatus is a very complex mechanism. It is an instrument whose walls are made up of bones, muscles, mucous membranes and resonating cavities that can be compared to the soundboard of a violin. These resonating cavities include the windpipe, lungs, nasal and speech cavities, nasal sinuses, and chest. The range and quality of the voice depends on their shape and size.

In people with beautiful voices, the resonators have such shapes that, perhaps, they can only be compared with perfect musical instruments. But that's not all. You also need to know how to control these resonating cavities. The singer, while singing, uses his entire complex vocal apparatus - from the diaphragm to the frontal sinuses.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

When could not only people, but also animals be accused in courts?

In the Middle Ages, there were frequent cases of church trials of animals according to all the rules - with accusers, lawyers and witnesses. Any animal could be accused, from large domestic animals to locusts and May beetles. Domestic animals, as a rule, were tried for witchcraft and sentenced to death, and wild ones for sabotage could be excommunicated from the church or ordered to leave the country. Such processes also took place in the New Age, and the last such sentence was passed on a cow in 1740.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New technologies for switched networks 30.04.2013

Avaya unveiled new solutions that showcase the company's advances in switched networking technology, including the industry's first multi-service endpoint and a new networking model using IP Multicast that dramatically improves efficiency, reliability and scalability over traditional approaches.

Avaya Vena Fabric Connect transforms the entire network fabric, from the data center to the desktop, making it more flexible, easier to configure, manage, and maintain. Based on a more efficient implementation of scalable open Shortest Path Bridging technology, Avaya Vena Fabric Connect provides the industry's most comprehensive array of network services, including layer 2 and layer 3 virtualization with optimized routing, and now full native support, according to the developers. IP Multicast.

Avaya Vena Fabric Connect allows customers to phase out multiple legacy technologies, instead providing access to all services through a single next-generation technology. Services can be deployed using a simple reconfiguration of end devices, which speeds up the provision of new services and reduces the likelihood of errors.

With the growth of video traffic and the adoption of new transport models such as VXLAN and NVGRE, IP Multicast is gaining importance and taking a central role in the network infrastructure. The limitations of the traditional approach are reflected in scalability, application performance, and flexibility. In contrast, IP Multicast over Avaya Fabric Connect provides the simplicity, scalability, and flexibility needed by the most demanding Multicast applications.

IP Multicast over Avaya Fabric Connect is already available on the ERS 8800 platform and later this year on the VSP 9000 and VSP 4000 platforms.

The VSP 4000 is a switched network capable, multi-tenant end device that extends Avaya Vena Fabric Connect to an entire campus network, metro network, or wireless network. The VSP 4000 is positioned as a low-end device that provides Gigabit/10 Gigabit access with full multi-service functionality, a carrier-class operating system, PoE+ support, and AC/DC connectivity. The following deployment options are provided: for small businesses, for geographically dispersed enterprises, for secure traffic separation, for IP video surveillance networks.
