Why do we have two nervous systems?

The human nervous system is like a network of wires, along which commands come from the brain. Thus, a connection is made with every part of the body. The brain is a kind of center of such a system. Commands from the brain through nerve fibers come out, which is why laughter arises, appetite is stimulated, sexual desire arises, etc. Nerves serve the brain as messengers. Through special parts of the nervous system, the brain receives information about everything that happens to the body.

The spinal cord is the main communication route between the brain and the entire body. The spinal cord is located in the spine and combines the nerve trunks in the same way that a telegraph cable combines wires. Each trunk has two pairs of nerve roots: anterior - the so-called motor, and posterior - sensitive.

Sensory roots transmit signals from the skin, muscles, internal organs to the spinal cord, and from there to the brain. Motor roots transmit signals from the spinal cord to different parts of the body. The sensory roots control sensations, and the motor roots control actions. When someone touches us, we feel it through sensitive nerve roots.

If we move, impulses from the brain are transmitted through the motor roots. This nervous system is called the central nervous system. It is responsible for all our conscious actions and for responses to external stimuli. Without the central nervous system, we would not be able to think, move and feel. But, as you know, the body can also perform subconscious actions.

Some vital organs must function, although consciousness does not take part in this. For example, digestion and respiration are carried out automatically and independently. The beating of the heart is also an automatic action. These and many other unconscious actions that are performed automatically are regulated by another nervous system. It is called the peripheral nervous system. She has no mind control. It passes through itself impulses coming from the central nervous system. Without such a system, which resembles an intricate network, our life would stop.

So, we need both nervous systems in order to live and function as a human being.

When was the Earth's gravitational field weakened?

On April 1, 1976, English astronomer Patrick Moore pranked listeners on BBC radio by announcing that at 9:47 a rare astronomical effect would happen: Pluto would pass behind Jupiter, enter into gravitational interaction with it and slightly weaken the Earth's gravitational field. If the listeners jump at this point, they must experience a strange feeling. Starting at 9:47 a.m., the BBC received hundreds of calls reporting the strange feeling, with one woman even claiming she and her friends were up from their chairs and flying around the room.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

E-cigarettes increase the risk of stroke 13.11.2021

American cardiologists have found that vapers suffer from a stroke about 15% more often than other people of similar age who smoke regular cigarettes.

"The liquid for vaping contains not only nicotine, but also other substances that negatively affect the functioning of blood vessels. Because of them, brain vessels can be damaged: blood clots may occur in them more often, which increases the risk of ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke," commented Karen Fury, professor at Brown University (USA) and one of the authors of the study.

Recent studies show that tobacco use is more dangerous than vaping, but the latter also threatens the human body. In particular, in a pair of electronic cigarettes, scientists have found toxins, carcinogens and other substances that not only increase the likelihood of lung cancer, but also make the walls of arteries and veins more fragile.

In a new study, physicians led by Urvish Patel from the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Medicine (USA) found another negative effect associated with the use of electronic cigarettes. Scientists analyzed surveys conducted by the US social and medical services in 2015-2018 among 266 thousand Americans, some of whom had recently experienced a stroke. This information became useful for researchers due to the fact that respondents indicated which cigarettes they use - regular or electronic.
