What is instinct?

Most of us think that we do every action consciously - so we sit down, stand up, shake hands with each other, because we want to. But in fact, the actions of people and all living beings are not so easily explained. For example, when you ride a bike, you can make hundreds of movements without thinking about how you do them. Your actions are the result of experience and skill.

Let's say you touch something hot and immediately pull your finger away. You don't think about pulling your finger away - you just do it. This action is instinctive.

Consider another example where our actions are not subject to prior reflection. Are you hungry. You don't always say to yourself, "I'm hungry, I'll go and find food." You just go and eat. Can this action be called instinct? One way or another, people do indeed have instincts (such as hunger, sexual, defensive, etc.), although some psychologists argue that this is not true. But we know that other animals act instinctively.

An instinct is a reaction of the body that occurs in response to external or internal irritation. For example, a bird builds a nest by collecting feathers, blades of grass, twigs. She fixes all this on a branch or some ledge in such a way that the nest has a certain size and is very stable. Birds of different species nests differ from each other, have their own characteristics. The only thing that can explain such abilities of a bird is instinct.

Instinctive actions in living beings always arise from internal or external stimuli, such as hunger, fear or sexual desire. It is quite probable that certain changes in the glands of internal secretion in birds and animals lead them to such manifestations which we call instincts. Foraging, morning chirping, mothering, migration and hibernation are all manifestations of glandular activity in animals.

Thus, the instinctive behavior of all living beings corresponds to the vital needs of the organism.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

5G communication module for cars 20.10.2019

The South Korean company LG Innotek has introduced an automotive communication module that supports 5G networks. According to the manufacturer, this is the world's first 5G module for cars. It is built on the Qualcomm element base.

The design of the module includes a modem, memory and RF circuits - about 480 components in total. The module provides real-time traffic information exchange, precise location determination, V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything - between the vehicle and surrounding objects) communication and transmission of large amounts of data. In other words, it performs the key functions required for fully autonomous driving without driver intervention.

Using 5G technology for an in-vehicle communication module has proved challenging because it uses high frequencies, resulting in more signal loss than LTE (Long Term Evolution, 4G mobile technology). Another problem is the high heat dissipation.

However, 5G provides an important advantage: the module introduces a delay of 1 ms or less, which is an order of magnitude less than the delay of the LTE module. As a result, for example, if a self-driving vehicle traveling at a speed of 100 km/h detects an obstacle and activates the emergency braking function, in the case of an LTE module, braking starts after the vehicle has traveled 1,4 m, and with a 5G module, only 2,8 cm.

The dimensions of the module are 40 x 50 x 3,5 mm, so it is easy to install it anywhere inside or outside the car. Compatibility with LTE modules allows you to replace existing LTE modules without changing the system design.

The module can be used regardless of region or vehicle type as it complies with 3GPP Release 15.
