Do snails lay eggs?

Snails belong to mollusks, that is, to animals that do not have a skeleton. There are two main types of snails: those with shells and those with only a thin mantle. Representatives of the second group are usually called "slugs". All members of this family of mollusks have one large leg from the side of the abdomen. That is why they are called gastropods.

This group includes large ocean snails and mitres. The shell diameter of an ocean snail is about 25 mm. All these creatures are equipped with one or two pairs of antennae. They have two eyes, which may be at the tips of the antennae or at their base, and a mouth. The mouth is often shaped like a proboscis. At the end of it there are sharp teeth with which the snail can gnaw on plants. Some snails eat animal food. For example, an oyster snail, which drills through the shell of an oyster and feasts on its flesh.

Snails and slugs breathe with a single lung or gills. Their shells, often beautifully shaped, are worked out by the mantle. They usually grow coil by coil as the snail itself grows. Most snails lay eggs. Some lay a few very large eggs, others a lot of small ones. In some species, offspring are born in the form of living beings!

Thus, you can see that these little creatures are a very interesting object to study. By the way, have you ever eaten snails? In many countries, the meat of garden and sea snails is considered a delicacy.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Non-nuclear submarine Taigei 08.08.2021

The first Japanese diesel-electric submarine of the new generation "Taigei" entered the factory sea trials. This became possible just 14 months after her launch. The Taigei will be handed over to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in March next year.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Corporation has been developing a new generation diesel-electric submarine since the early 2010s under the 29SS project. It should replace the aging ships of the Soryu type. Soryu can reach speeds of up to 20 knots. Their underwater displacement is 4,2 thousand tons with a length of 84 meters and a width of 9,1 meters.

According to the 29SS project, it is planned to build a series of seven ships. The first of them, Taigei, was launched in October last year. It is distinguished by the reduced dimensions of the cabin, partially integrated into the ship's hull. This should reduce hydrodynamic resistance when moving in a submerged position and reduce battery charge consumption.

With a length of 84 meters and a width of 9,1 meters, the displacement of the Taigei is three thousand tons. Like the last two Soryu-class ships, it is equipped with lithium-ion batteries instead of traditional lead-acid batteries. Of the armament, Taigei has six tube launchers of 533 mm caliber for torpedoes and cruise missiles.

14 months after the launch, the Taigei left the factory sea trials. This is the second stage of testing any ship. It checks on-board equipment in real conditions and the compliance of the vessel with design characteristics, such as speed, stability and propulsion. "Taigei" will become the 22nd ship of the Japanese submarine fleet. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is due to receive it next March.
