When did the first police appear?

A long time ago, police officers, much like the ones in the picture above, belonged to numerous independent police organizations in America. Now there are 40 units in the US that are investigating in different areas and specialize in a particular type of crime. In France, the Ministry of the Interior directly supervises the police throughout the country, and is also indirectly connected with the work of the municipal police.

The roots of this organization go back to ancient times. Even in the prehistoric period, the leaders of the ancient tribes depended on their squads, which kept peace and tranquility among the people and forced them to follow certain rules. The Egyptian pharaohs did the same - they used their soldiers as policemen.

Already at the beginning of our era, Caesar Augustus organized a police detachment in the city of Rome. It lasted 350 years. His task was to monitor the implementation of the instructions of the emperor.

Somewhere between 700 and 800 AD. n. e. a new idea arose concerning the work of the police. Instead of following orders against people, the police were called upon to uphold the law and protect the people! This idea had a great influence on the development of police organizations in England, and later in the United States.

The British police used the principle of vigilant vigilance. In some areas, patrols operated at night, and guards during the day. This system was borrowed by the colonists in the United States. Constables, burly men of 16 years of age and older, worked as night watchmen for free. In some areas, this system was used until the beginning of the XNUMXth century.

In London, the head of the Metropolitan Police - the Commissioner - reports to the Home Secretary, that is, the government exercises direct control over him. Outside of London, almost every county and every town in the county has its own police unit, which is subordinate to the local authorities. Although the local police are somewhat independent, they are still accountable to the center.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

How does a chameleon catch prey?

The body of the chameleon is flattened laterally, the tail is twisted in a spiral and can cling tightly to branches. Fingers are also adapted to this. The eyes of a chameleon can look independently in different directions, for example, one - up, the other - back. This allows the animal to inspect the surroundings, remaining completely motionless, which is very important for him.

The chameleon is able to quickly change color to match the color of the surrounding background. But he doesn't know how to move fast. Only a patient person can notice how he moves.

The fact is that the chameleon does not run after prey, he waits for her to come to him herself. If she's not close enough, he takes a few slow steps towards her. And as soon as the insect is within reach ... of its tongue, it immediately falls into its mouth, before you have time to blink an eye.

The length of the chameleon's tongue can exceed the length of the body, and it straightens out in hundredths of a second. Not only is the tongue sticky, but also its forked tip grabs the victim, like with tweezers. When a chameleon approaches a prey, it may look at it with one eye, while the other may rummage around. But before throwing out the tongue, the lizard directs both eyes at the prey - apparently in order to accurately aim.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
