Did you know?

In what range is the Earth comparable in brightness to the Sun and many times greater than all the other planets of the solar system combined?

In his book "The Universe, Life, Mind", I.S. Shklovsky notes that if Martian astronomers, like Earth astronomers, investigated the radio emission of planets, they would make an amazing discovery: in the meter wavelength range, the planet Earth radiates millions of times more intense than Venus or Mercury, sending into space a stream of radio emission of almost the same power as the Sun during periods when there are no spots on it! Then they would find that different parts of the surface of our planet radiate differently: the level of radio emission, for example, Europe or North America is much higher than Africa or Central Asia.

What would surprise Martian radio astronomers most of all was the fact that just a few decades ago, the Earth radiated at meter wavelengths a million times weaker.

According to I. S. Shklovsky, the so-called brightness temperature of the Earth at meter wavelengths, due to the operation of television transmitters, is close to several hundred million degrees. This is hundreds of times higher than the radio brightness of the Sun at the same wavelengths during periods when there are no or almost no spots on its surface. But in addition to television transmitters on Earth, there is also a huge number of radio transmitters and other devices that emit powerful radiation in the ultrashort-wave range.

Why does alcohol cause intoxication?

Alcohol is present in our body all the time. With food, carbohydrates, starch, sugar enter our body, alcohol is produced from them and absorbed into the blood. Thus, about 1 g of alcohol is constantly circulating in our body. But what happens when we take an extra dose of alcohol?

Alcohol is a drug. It can be described as a substance that is quickly absorbed by nerve cells and paralyzes them. But before the narcotic disorder, it stimulates the nerve cells and leads to a state of excitement.

We conclude that alcohol first acts as an aphrodisiac. The property of alcohol to maintain a stimulus for a long time leads to the fact that then it begins to be used as a drug. The presence of alcohol in the body becomes necessary. Under the influence of alcohol in the body, gastric juice begins to stand out excessively and profuse salivation occurs. That is why many Europeans prefer to take spicy wines before dinner. They whet the appetite. The body quickly absorbs small doses of alcohol, it also quickly absorbs carbon dioxide and sugar.

Champagne, for example, contains both sugar and carbon dioxide, which are quickly absorbed and produce a stimulating effect. How does alcohol affect the brain? The first effect is a feeling of excitement. Actions and speech are animated. The skin turns red, blood pressure rises, the heart beats faster, and breathing quickens. But alcohol also has a depressing effect on the body. Our observations indicate that alcohol consumption reduces attention. The higher functions of the brain are paralyzed, control over one's mood is lost.

Another serious effect is relaxation. There are many nerve fibers in our body, called inhibitory fibers, which act like a brake on the nervous system. They show the results of education and upbringing, make people disciplined and restrained.

Under the influence of alcohol, inhibitory nerve fibers are paralyzed, self-control and the ability to reason soundly are weakened. And we are ready to say and do things that we would never do if we were in a normal state. Alcohol is the cause of intoxication!

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Space water engine 05.04.2023

Pale Blue, who was born in the walls of the University of Tokyo, tested the rocket engine while adjusting the orbit of the EYE satellite.

Despite the simple mechanics of operation based on Newtonian physics, and relatively low cost, water engines for satellites have not yet become widespread.

Developed by Pale Blue, the system was launched with Sony's EYE satellite as part of its Earth imaging program. At launch, the engine was turned on for approximately two minutes, during which the EYE satellite orbit was corrected.

Pale Blue was created by Japanese scientists three years ago. It is developing several types of water-based propulsion systems. The one that was launched on EYE is called "Resistojet". The principle of its operation is quite simple. Basically, it just pushes the water out of the tube to push the satellite in a given direction. Correction of the movement of the object in this case is carried out using electronics.

The company is not going to stop there. She is already working on another type of water-based engine that looks more like an ion than a simple jet engine. In this configuration, water is atomized by a microwave plasma source and ejected from the rear of the setup.

Although it has not yet been possible to test the ion engine in Pale Blue space, the company has planned an even more ambitious one - combining two engine configurations into one hybrid.
