TRIZ. talent algorithm. Suit for Porthos

When you first inspect an unfamiliar city, something immediately catches your eye, but you don’t notice something, you pass by. Something like this happened with our tour of TRIZ. After re-reading what I had written, I suddenly discovered that I had not said anything about many very interesting tricks. Here is one of them; so that you better feel its charm, let's start with a task.

Problem 49. THE TRAIN WILL LEAVE IN FIVE MINUTES

Pine logs were loaded into open railway cars. The inspectors measured the diameter of each trunk in order to then calculate the volume of all logs. The work of the measurers was slow.

- We'll have to delay the train, - said the senior controller. - Today we can't manage.

And then, of course, an inventor appeared.

- I have an idea! he exclaimed. The train will leave in five minutes. Take...

And he explained what to take and what to do. What would you suggest?

When this problem was published by "Pionerskaya Pravda", the correct answers were sent only by those guys who firmly remembered: in order to solve an inventive problem, it is necessary to overcome the contradiction. Here are some bad suggestions:

- let the team of 300 - 500 people conduct measurements;

- determine by eye the average diameter of the log and calculate how many logs;

- make cuts of all the logs and without haste measure their diameter when the train leaves ...

For a gain in accuracy, you have to pay a loss in cost, complexity. And vice versa: if you prefer simplicity (measure by eye), you will have to give up accuracy. Hidden behind this technical contradiction is a physical contradiction: the train must leave and the train must stay. It is necessary to make the train leave and at the same time, as it were, stay ...

So we come to an inventive trick: if it is difficult to measure some object, you need to get a copy of this object and measure the copy. In a few minutes, you can take a picture of the logs from the open side of the car. A ruler must be attached to the logs - to determine the scale. And the train can be sent: all measurements will be taken from the pictures.

It is interesting that Alexandre Dumas, the author of The Three Musketeers, was the first to express the idea of this technique. In the novel "Ten Years Later" there is a chapter about how Porthos ordered a new suit. Porthos did not agree to be touched while taking measurements. The playwright Molière, who found himself in the tailor's waiting room, found a way out. Molière led Porthos to a mirror and took measurements from the image of a musketeer...

TRIZ. talent algorithm. Suit for Porthos

There are many witty tricks, you can talk about them and talk about them. But for the first acquaintance with the city, it is enough to look at a few typical buildings, walk along a few typical streets, and then look at the general plan.

You now know some of the laws of development of technical systems, you know almost two dozen tricks and, I hope, you even know how to apply some physical phenomena. Of course, this is just one block in the city of TRIZ. But - a typical quarter. So let's move on to the general TRIZ plan and see how everything looks in a single system.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New type of atomically thin carbon material discovered 07.06.2021

Researchers at the University of Marburg in Germany and Aalto University in Finland have discovered a new carbon network that is atomically thin like graphene but is made up of squares, hexagons and octagons that form an ordered lattice. The scientists also found that the electronic properties of the new carbon network are very different from those of graphene.

Unlike graphene and other forms of carbon, the biphenylene network, as the new material is called, has metallic properties. The narrow bands of the network, only 21 atoms wide, already behave like a metal, while graphene of this size is a semiconductor.

Scientists from Aalto University helped create an image of the material and decipher its properties. Prof. Peter Lilgeroth's team performed high-resolution microscopy, which showed the structure of the material, while researchers led by Prof. Adam Foster used computer modeling and analysis to understand the electrical properties of the material.

The new material is made by assembling carbon-containing molecules on an extremely smooth gold surface. These molecules first form chains that are made up of linked hexagons, and the subsequent reaction joins these chains together to form squares and octagons.

An important feature of chains is that they are chiral, that is, they exist in two types of mirror image, such as left hand and right hand. Chains of only one type are collected on the surface of gold, forming ordered assemblies before connecting. This is critical to the formation of a new carbon material because the reaction between two different types of chains results in only graphene.
