And my Matryona became neither Pava nor Crow

Krylov I.A.
Krylov I.A.

Phraseologism: And my Matryona became neither Pava nor Crow.

Meaning: About a person who abandoned his usual way of life, his business, his roots and could not find himself in a new life, a new field of activity, in a different social environment (jokingly ironic).

Origin: From the fable "The Crow" (1825) by I. A. Krylov (1769-1844). In it, the poet speaks of a crow that adorned its tail with peacock feathers and "went arrogantly walking with Pavami." But the Peacocks (peacocks) pecked her and drove her away: "And her undertakings ended with the fact // That she lagged behind the Ravens, // But she did not stick to the Peacocks." In addition to the usual “morality” with which the poet begins this fable, he illustrates the last and everyday example: “I will explain this fable to you by reality. Matryona, the daughter of a merchant, the thought fell. for a baron. What happened? The new relatives prick her eyes with a reproach that she was born a bourgeois, And the old one because she tangled herself with the nobles: and my Matryona became neither Pava nor Crow.

Random phraseology:

The guard is tired.

Meaning:

Proposal to end the protracted meeting.

Origin:

The words of the head of the security of the Tauride Palace, sailor Anatoly Grigorievich Zheleznyakov (1895-1919), addressed to the chairman of the Constituent Assembly V. M. Chernov on the night of January 5-6, 1918, when it was dissolved by the Bolsheviks (by decision of V. I. Lenin and commissioner P. E. Dybenko).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Space data transmission using a laser 31.05.2023

A team of researchers from NASA, MIT, Terran Orbital and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) ground station has set a record for transmitting data to an earth station using laser communications. The satellite was able to transmit data at a speed of 200 Gbps.

With such indicators, you can transfer more than 2 terabytes of data in one 5-minute pass over the ground station. Communication is provided by the TeraByte InfraRed Delivery (TBIRD) system, located at an altitude of about 530 km above the Earth's surface.

Located aboard NASA's Pathfinder Technology Demonstrator 3 (PTD-3) satellite, TBIRD was launched into orbit as part of the joint SpaceX Transporter-5 mission on May 25, 2022. The PTD-3 satellite weighs approximately 12 kg, and its TBIRD payload is no larger than a box of tissues.

Launched into space last May, the laser reached 100 Gb/s downlink speed by June with a ground-based receiver in California. This was 100 times faster than the high speed Internet in most cities, and more than 1000 times faster than the radio links traditionally used to receive data from satellites.

The fastest data networks on Earth are usually based on laser fiber communications. However, high-speed laser Internet for satellites does not yet exist. Space agencies and commercial satellite operators most often use radio communications.
