Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Snapdragon 665, Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G mobile platforms 09.04.2019

Qualcomm announced three new chipsets for mid-range smartphones at once: Snapdragon 730, Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 665, in the development of which the main focus was on cameras and support for artificial intelligence.

The 8nm Snapdragon 730 is the successor to the Snapdragon 710 found in smartphones such as the Galaxy A8s and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. This mobile platform uses 8 Kryo 470 cores (2 Cortex-A76 cores @ 2,2GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 cores @ 1,8GHz). Adreno 618 acts as a graphics accelerator, providing a performance increase of 25%. In addition, a Hexagon 688 tensor-accelerated signal processor, a Spectra 350 image processor, and an X15 LTE modem are announced. The Snapdragon 730 also supports dual cameras up to 22MP, single cameras up to 192MP, Quick Charge 4+, Wi-Fi 6, and the 4th generation AI Engine.

The Snapdragon 730G chipset is a gaming version of the previous model. The only difference is higher GPU frequencies, which contributed to a 15% increase in performance, and increased screen resolution (Quad HD + instead of FHD +). Qualcomm also says it has added a Jank Reducer feature that can almost completely eliminate stuttering in games at 30fps.

Another novelty is the SoC Snapdragon 665, created according to the standards of the 11-nm process technology. It should replace the Snapdragon 660 chipset introduced in 2017. Snapdragon 665 configuration includes 8 Kryo 260 cores (4 Cortex-A73 cores at 2,0 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 cores at 1,8 GHz), Adreno 610 GPU, X12 modem, Spectra 165 image processor and digital signal Hexagon 686 processor.

The new mobile platform provides support for a triple camera and single sensors with a resolution of 48 MP. It also announced support for FHD + displays, up to 8 GB of RAM and Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging standard.
